Just wondering if it is relatively safe to jack up and place axle stands in each corner?
I want to get all my wheels done, and would rather take in all 4 if I can
Is it best to put the axle stands on the main part of the chassis, or will it be OK on the outriggers for a week?
In the original handbook (which I have!!) it states to place the axle stands in the same place as the jack...ie. the outriggers???

I'm paranoid about this - jack on the main chassis rails only and use timber lengths to shed the load along the rails.
Mind you, I have to raise the S 2" of the deck before I can even get my trolley jack underneath. I have a couple of pieces of old kitchen worktop which serve as a make shift mini-ramp for this purpose.
I really must get round to ordering the new shocks & springs

I don't use any wood between jack and chassis in case it should slip (all that waxoyl)
I just use a thick cloth as padding.

The only trouble with axel stands down the centre is that the whole car is a little precarious. I usually place the rear two under the outermost points of the where the rear suspension arms join the large round cross members, the front two one the square chassis sections.

Had mine up on jacks/axel stands for a good bit of last winter, I was also a bit worried about how precarious it looked so stuck some bits of sawn up railway sleepers at various places. Made me feel a bit happier while thrashing about under it with either rust flakes or waxoil in my eyes (must get goggles this year!).
Had my wheels done a couple of years ago which required all 4 missing at the same time. Company managed to collect on Monday and return on Thursday...all for £25 a wheel with the tyres back on and balanced etc. I aquired a couple of trolly jacks and 4 axel stands which did the job a treat. Not recommended though if actually working under the car!

you can see the reflection of axel stands in the underside of the footwells, WOW! ![]()
I am not trying to provoke a response, but I would have my stands a bit further apart than that if any heavy work was required. You can never be too safe![]()

The car is remarkably stable. I found these were the best places to put axle stands, as there are vertical cross members directly beneath them.
Thanks for all the comment, gives me more incentive this winter

Surely Mr Sheen, they must be photos of your car on the production line before leaving the factory and getting dirty.
You even have shiny nuts, mine are all brown and dirty!
Wait now for a knob gag from Podie!

Smern (and Mr Sheen), aren't the plates both cherished transfers, not the original reg are they?
Both "VBS" ....V8S
Coincidence??
I presume they are cherished transfer, To be honest K400 gave me a box load of info on the car, and I haven't opened it since getting the car, what with moving house and driving the V8s I haven't had a chance
I'll look later when Im home.
(BTW I'll post a picture I thought I'd never see, My Garage with 2 TVR's in it !!!!, still got the S2
