I've had the most expensive problem listed, but it was covered under a Lexus recall. Most of the others are gearbox or hybrid battery related (which I will have to look forward to in a couple of years no doubt).

Good to know I won't be doing any of those any time soon, no intention of ever buying a hybrid.

3 Replace transmission and reprogram ECU, $3644.32, Honda Civic 01-04

Are they having a laugh??? That's 2300 quid!!! You could buy 2 fully working cars of that age for that price here!

The Americans baffle me. Whilst I can commend them for repairing older vehicles rather than replace them, they pay through the nose for stupid stuff. I mean, $3000 for a mass air flow sensor on a Chevey Cavalier? Da fuq? eek

I'm surprised that Honda litter that list. Although not surprised that there are hybrids galore.

Nissan GT-R Transmissions? They were recalled at a cost of near £12,000 per vehicle or so I heard and from reading various Gt-r o/c members posts on other sites.

On Porsches it's a platinum wire and if you want to buy a replacement now you can be looking at £1,000.

On my RX the hybrid inverter blew when I was reversing up a hill. The car effectively went into neutral. A bit of Googling revealed there was a US recall and a "soft" recall in the UK, where they sent you a letter to say your car might be recalled, but didn't say when.

Intresting

A gas mass sensor is more expensive to change then a supercharger. What is a gas mass sensor?

Also there is no information on how likely these breakdowns are so I'd far rather take a 1% chance of a prius going spectacularly wrong then the 30% chance of a modern diesel shoving its head up its own ass

Annoying how many DPF's get replaced, they're bloody expensive! All you need to do is open the taps up on your car now and then and it won't clog up so easily!

Same goes for EGR valves!

Integrale rust. Sagaris...issues.

Dont ask, they are just expensive. I dont even want to contemplate what my Sagaris warranty claims came to.

Thread is pointless without some sort of qualification of the figures - clearly the title doesnt tell the full story - or has no supercar ever blown an engine etc?

Its a very selective list, ie since when was a bettery an engine? Or how much is a porche IMS failure to repair?

Battery failure rates on the Honda insight are around 0.2%. You can also get it fixed much cheaper than the price listed.

I really don't believe these prices. An average of £1600 to replace a fuel injection pump? Really?
Are American versions of cars that expensive to replace, or is US labo(u)r that much more expensive than ours?

Sorry, I call bks on that list. Looks like it's an insurance/warranty claims thing, and we all know what happens to a bill when you put it through an insurance company.....

Why? That list is about cost of repairs, not reliability. Honda have never been known for cheap parts and labour prices AFAIK.

This is a good point - the list is clearly not worth the paper its written on. Its based on entries to a database by a certain type of independent mechanic. Doesn't include main dealers, doesn't include the "properly" expensive repairs on some of the more prestige brands, doesn't include engine replacements. It also takes no account of the frequency of these occurrences.

So its basically a random list of stuff which a few random mechanics had to repair once.
