During the recent snow twice my car has behaved a bit strange after playing about. Its a Subaru Impreza so I had been playing about in empty car parks a few times evil But when I was driving in a straight line and I got over 54mph (same speed both times) the car started to wobble up and down. Like the whole car going up and down, not something I've ever experienced before. Almost as if my wheels had turned egg shaped. The first time this happened I pulled over to check the car expecting wheel nuts loose but nothing. When I set off again it was fine. Second time it happened it made me think if it was due to the snow getting compact inbetween my spokes and when I get it up to speed it knocked the ballance out.

Does this sound logical? Its not happened since but I just wondered if anyone had experienced anything similar.

A picture of my wheel to illistrate my tale.

Yup, I had exactly the same thing with my WRX last week. Snow had compacted into solid ice on the inside of them rim. Now guessing how light wheel weights are I figure that a large piece of ice isn't going to do balancing any favours!

My dad once had this coming back through france, Thinking he had a puncture he pulled over to find a load of solid snow wedged/ stuck to the wheel/ tyre.
Once knocked off it was fine. If your cars all good again, no worries smile

Happened to me aswel in my mx5 the wheels where full of ice/snow/slush mix cleared it all of and was ok. Just think that with balancing wheels most are only out by 20-40g so adding the weight of snow and ice will not do the balance any favours.

Any evidence of increased brake dust? One of my MX5 calipers/pistons has seized in the snow/ice/salt which caused a "wheel wobble" through the steering wheel via getting the brake disc hotter than the sun - fun when there is snow to throw at it smile

Glad its not just me who has had it. I thought it was a daft thought at first but then the more I thought into it it started to make sense!

Happens all the time to my landrover and the wifes Forester and my Micra

But sometimes it is due to a build up of mud
