Well after driving around in the snow and ice the past 2 weeks without trouble. Yesterday the first ok day we have and something falls off frown

I think the frost might have got to it.
Driving down the road I hear a funny flapping noise it stops and I think nothing of it, I arrive get out, look back at the car and Bugger! The right rear lens is missing. frown

Any recommendations on a replacement? Or are they all the same?

These are often shaped to fit. As long as you are aware it may need a bit of shaping. Use Tiger Seal or any PU adhesive. NOT silicon!!

And here is another white spirit on a soft cloth/finger/cotton bud to finish of the Silkaflex/Tiger seal etc (def not silicone) wink I have seen some appalling use of these acrylic sealer's in the past eek

Urgh come on then, this will teach me not to search before fixing things on my car.

Why shouldn't I have used silicon sealant? I used the flexible marine stuff that was laying about in the workshop and assumed that if it was good enough to be sticking lorry parts together it would happily stick a bit of perspex on.

I'm going to have to do it properly again anyway, it needs to have the black border painted on again. Any recommendations for that, just any plastic model type paint?

I have just redone mine , i originally painted the black border with enamel paint. I found that the sikaflex pulled the paint off after a few months. This time i used the sikaflex sealant to paint the border , its a bit of a nasty job as you are painting with glue but its worked a treat.

Dodsy, remind me never to listen to you again.

Does anyone know an easy way to get silicon out of hair?

It worked fine for me. Masked up the lights, got a small paintbrush then gave it 2 coats. Just be careful not to get it in your hair..... oh.

ETA white spirit gets it off a treat assuming you have used sikaflex

tongue out

Out of interest, how did you get a smooth finish on the gap where it is just silicon? I think that I didn't use enough right up to the edge so there are a few gaps in places. I'm planning on masking it up, filling them in and smoothing it down with my finger to make it a bit neater.

I assume you mean the gap after fitting. The way i did it was to paint the lens with 2 coats. Once dry mask up the lens and car. Then a thick bead on the car to hold the lens in. Leave overnight to set then run a bead all around the gap. Smooth with finger let dry for 10 mins then remove tape. Use cloth soaked in white spirit to run around the edge to remove excess job done

Eta you can let it dry for a few days then use white spirit to clean up the edges just takes time
