I had noticed that sometimes my LCD display (10 years old) had one line of pixels out, and sometimes it was fine.

Then as we got into the cold winter I had a few more lines out. But after a long run and getting some heat into the car, when I restarted it these were often gone.

The car lives in a garage which is dry (probably the same humidity as outside) and unheated.

Based on the display working better after a run I guessed the failure of lines of pixels might be humidity related, so I bought a small disposable dehumidifier to keep in the car in the garage - like the one pictured below.

It has been in the car for a couple of months (and needs swapping for a fresh one now). The display no longer has an any dead lines of pixels when I have driven the car (on the nicer days) or just turned the ignition on to test the display (on some very cold days).

Based on this very short test, if your car is stored outside or in an unheated garage, it may be worth using one of these over winter when temperatures are low and the car isn't used much.

Hi Gavin, That looks a good idea, where do you get them from.

The one I tried came from Amazon.

I think it was this one at £2.49 delivered.

Brilliant. Just bought a apck of 5 for £6.30.
On the subject of the LCD, is it easy to replace the cable? Mine keeps going loose.

Definitely humidity / dampness related. Our tam spent the quarter in a damp garage and a third of the display was currupt. Now that it is in a dehumidified garage, the display is back to normal
