Or door mirrors...
What have you got?
What looks good?
Where from?
Mine has these American things that look aweful... I love bullet wing mirrors but pretty much useless...
In a local scrappy there's some stainless steel triumph 2500. I really like the looks of them and also appear to be useful.
Others I've seen are metro ones.
I'm thinking stainless for the shiney factor.
What do you reckon?

I have these.... clicky
Drivers door ok but passenger side took a little "persuasion" to bend in enough to be any use
These look similar but maybe have more adjustment ? .... clicky again

Shop around if you decide on the "Tex" mirrors.... another clicky, readily available from all the MG, Triumph, Mini etc. specialists

I Have the TEX 68991 etc different code for the other side these work great except over 100mph they can get blown off if not screwed on properly LOL lost one on the way back from Brooklands new years day so just got a new one e bay is cheaper than Tex direct so shop around
the plastic bracket that they attatch to can crack which mine had and i thaught it would last one trip until i ordered another but i was wrong nice thing with TEX is you can get spare parts etc so well worth getting them regards reason to get them she can see much better in the new ones how beautiful she is that should get you some brownie points.

I have the Tex 68990/1 but beware of the quality!
I may be picky but when I ordered mine the first set were very poor IMHO. Where the metal was rolled round the plastic surround it looked like an opened tin lid!
I can't fault their customer service, they sent me several pairs out to try but even when they said they'd checked them to make sure they were OK, I still thought they were pretty poor. They refunded my money and all postage costs.
Eventually I bought a pair from SVC (highly recommended!) at a show as I was able to look through the stock they had.
I was really disappointed as I expected Tex to live up to their reputation for quality and also buy something made in Britain. Tex mirrors I'd seen on cars had been fine.
Hopefully they had a bad spell and things are better now.
Hopefully this doesn't breach name and shame as I hope it's a balanced view - I did buy their product but it was hard work!

I've just bought a black Tex mirror to match the one on the driver's side. I'm wondering what best the way to fix it is. The current one has some sort of wood screw which looks like it's been screwed into a slightly over-large pre-drilled hole, but it leaves the pointed end sticking out on the inside of the door and doesn't look very good nor seem very solid.
Perhaps it should be done with small nuts and bolts with some sort of strengthening strip of metal on the inside to prevent putting to much pressure on the fibreglass. Any thoughts?

They do do an angled plinth, were the 'bracket' sort of points upwards

Mine originally came with the bullet mirrors. Those looked out-dated even when new. Honestly, None of the mirrors mentioned in this thread are stylistically in touch with the shape of an M. Vitaloni Sebring, and Vitaloni Californian have enough of a curvaceous shape to not look totally out of place, especially in chrome*. Sebrings are low drag, were de rigeur on racers from the early seventies on, and while they may not mount in the original position and still be of any use, they sure look fan-damn-tastic. Californians cover both mounting holes, look great, and serve their purpose.

The Sebring sometimes came with great looking stanchions, too. Sometimes not. Sometimes a little outlandish.

* I do think the cars with black bumpers also look great with flat black mirrors.
Best,
B.
P.S. All of the above IMHO

Those Tex mirrors come from a time when wing or door mirrors were fitted at the Main Dealers rather than factory fit. They are designed to be fitted without the need to remove door cards etc. (quick and therefore much cheaper). Two holes drilled, more than likely no rust protection and on it goes! The plastic bit has two sort of Rawlplugs moulded into it which expand when the self tapping screws go in. This, combined with the little grub screw that holds the mirror to the bracket doesn't give the most secure fitting but does have the advantage that if some oaf knocks the mirror it will probably fall off rather than damage the door skin?
There is no reason why you couldn't change this to nuts 'n bolts, penny washers, stress spreader plates etc.
ETA, sorry B but I think those mirrors are totally out of keeping with the rather old fashioned (even for the 70's) styling of the M/Taimar

Boring World if we all liked the same !
