My S14a 200SX :)
Discussion
Hola, my names Rod, i'm 20 and i'm jynxed!
Right, where to start... My MX5 sadly got written off due to an incompetant garage employee in a Nissan Juke, so I had to get a replacement!
Looked at heaps of things, other MX5s, Mazda RX7s, even at the new Toyota GT86, MK1 Focus RS. To say I'm indecisive is an understatement.
Come december I had been driving the MG on temporary insurance and needed to get something but just couldn't find anything!
Had seen this car for sale but unfortunately a deposit had been put down and it was no longer available.

And was rather gutted as it's my perfect spec!
So after non stop searching on pistonheads, autotrader, SXOC etc I wasn't getting anywhere. So I thought i'd mail the seller of the car, just out of curiosity.
Well, good news! The guy who left a deposit was from France and hadn't been in contact with the seller for over a week. So I offered him £100 more if I flew down that weekend and bought it. Hey presto, the deal was done.
Cue one bloody early start, to fly to Birmingham, from Aberdeen, to buy a car i'd not even seen with a one way ticket. Nervous wasn't the right word.
I got picked up from the airport, taken to the guys house. He even picked me up in a different car so I could see the 200SX start from cold, brilliant. Clean, original stereo, sensible upgrades etc! I was in love! So, quick call to insurers, hand over the cash and the deed was done. I finally owned my 200SX!
Though, as excited as I was. Leaving his house I realised there was F-All petrol in it. b
ks, driving round a new city in a new car with little to no petrol is not a fun experience.
Then begun the journey home. Around 450 miles, not too bad I thought. but didn't factor in traffic, oh well. It was fun!
The car pulls so cleanly, but strong. It's been set up wonderfully, not your usual ricer 'nothing, nothing BWAP BWAP TSH' It's very progressive and rides really well.
The journey back was a long one, but oh so much fun, just me, my new car, and miles of road ahead. And of course, my shell v-power card and Mr visa!
Fast forward to today, and i've done c. 2200 miles in it (quite worrying seeing as it's an evening car!) since I got it. Getting it serviced soon and then hopefully go stage 2/1 this year.
Snow? Not too much of an issue, got winter tyres on the back (but driving according to the fronts, as to not get carried away.) and it's been great.
The car is running 285bhp & 300lb/ft torque, which is fun... Hopefully more later in the year but my main thing is to keep the car healthy!
I'll stop jabbering on as my lunch break is coming to a close and get some pictures up.
comments and critisisms welcome. I'm happy (read, voer the moon) with the car. Things are expensive, being a 20 year old with a penchant for getting crashed in to. But it's worth it, I may not be in the same monitary situation next year, so I'm doing it while I can

Cracking sideways picture there, exactly what the car was made for!
How much was your insurance out of interest? As I'm 20 next year and could be something to look into.
Expensive, but i've been crashed into 3 times within the space of 1 year, including a write off. So Don't take my quotes as gospel How much was your insurance out of interest? As I'm 20 next year and could be something to look into.

I don't use it for commuting or anything either so puts it down a bit. But, in the situation where I can justify it (ish) but I'd rather pay a bit extra and drive this than another hatch back!

Nice example. Even better to see it hasnt been "slammed" to the floor on coilovers. S-Tunes are one of the best set ups on the 200 I firmly believe, a good compromise.
Indeed, the cars been looked after, sensible options, even came with the OEM headlamp protectors! Though one is cracked so they are off. The set up is awesome. Opposite of my MX5 which was slammed on coilovers, but was still vaguely useable.
My aim for this is a M3 beater, not a drift wagon. Drift wagon would be in the shape of a £500 E36 BMW

My old MX5:

It's working out at around £2000.
My MX5 last year (after 1 non fault accident) was only £1100, and was getting similar quotes for this until I got bashed twice. nigh on doubled.
Edit: for reference. To insure the MG or the MX5 would be around £1500-1600 so would rather pay a bit more and have something I love. (so the MG is sat unloved on the driveway!)

Great choice OP
I still regard my S14a 200sx as my best all-round motor to date. I came very close to getting another one recently when my MR2 was written off, but in the end picked up another MR2. Great cars to drive and also fun to work on. I found the community really good also, enjoy
