Coming from a TVR tuscan, I know I'll be killed for asking about cruise control. But I'm interested in an RX8. Its pretty much comes with every electronic option that I want. But I haven't been able to find out if the RX8 comes with cruise control as standard? I'm looking at a 2007 (07) or later car.

If its not a standard or optional, can it be retro fitted easily?

Thanks

It used to be the case that you had to obtain either US or JDM firmware for the ECU to enable cruise control as well as adding the buttons and cabling on the steering wheel.
This may have changed with more tuning/remapping happening on RX8's. Get over to rx8ownersclub.co.uk and ask.

To answer in more detail.

The Series 1 RX-8s (2003-2009) did not have Cruise Control as an option in the UK market, but did in other markets.

However, the ECU and wiring harness were equipped for CC. Hence, many people bought the switchgear kit from JDM or USA and retro-fitted it; they were easy to fit and worked fine.

THEN somebody in Mazda (UK?) had the bright idea one year that the CC feature would be disabled, and that was the case with the ECU re-flash update done during scheduled annual services services! People booked their cars in for a service with working CC, and it came out with a white-elephant of non-functioning switchgear, and there was no going back and no recompense from Mazda! :-(

All Series 2 (R3 in UK, MY 2009-) have Cruise Control as standard. FTW!
