Wrong size caliper mount or just plain weird?

Hi all, I got some ~15y.o. Marzocchi Atoms fitted to my bike today but there was a slight problem when I came to reattach the brakes:



As you can see, the caliper is only half on the disc (a 160mm rotor) at best. Is this mount meant for a 180mm rotor as there seems to be about 10mm of free space from disc edge to the furthest point in the caliper body.

Fit a bigger disc?

you just need a 180mm rotor or 160mm adaptor. I'd go with the bigger disc, £11 job done!

Would the mount work the other way round?

Bigger Disk. I have the same (IS) mount and a no3 Hope caliper requires a 180mm disk.

The opposite happened to me recently on the rear, where I needed to use a 180mm +20 adapter, to fit my 160mm disk, as the frame was designed for a 140mm disk standard!

I've just realised I've been extremely speshul...

Whilst I was having the forks fitted, I had taken both calipers off the mountings and removed the adaptors and pads, to clean the road dirt and brake dust and other crap off them. Having gone and ordered a 180mm disc from CRC, I went to refit the rear caliper. Thats odd, methinks. Why wont it go on properly?
Yep... I had the rear mount adaptor on the front caliper and vice versa. Switching them round, the front one now fits properly over the 160mm disc.

I am a total idiot     


I hope CRC can cancel orders!

Don't bother, just add a set of 180mm adapters to the order for beastly overkill brakes

Yup, you can never have too much breaking power! I have 203 mm discs front and back on my Blue Pig - they would stop Concord on full power!
