my boss has got a strange noise coming from the rear diff on his 56 reg freelander 2 i6, He has phoned land rover and they said if it is the diff then it will be £5000+ for a new one, is this a common problem with freelander 2's? or just wear and tear? it has done just under 70.000 miles.

I know the first generation freelander had quite a few problems, but i havent heard that many about the freelander2.

Common, but new diff is not normally required. Go on Freel2.co.uk & have a read...

Hi. The noise from the rear diff is normally the tail pinion bearing - common fault. It does not need a complete diff replacment.Repair time 3.2 HRS + parts - bearing, seals, gaskets, collapsible washer & gear oil.
