I have just bought a '93 impreza 2.0l turbo saloon ( an import if that makes any difference) on which needs new wheels and tyres. It came with after market wheels and I was silly enough to not receive the looking wheel nut.

My first question is how do I know which sizes I should be looking for as ideally I'd like to put a subaru wheel back on. The current wheels are 205 40 17. I'm not sure if this is even the right size to have on. I'd like to keep with the 17 inches if poss and might even go to 45 but as to the other specifications I'm not sure what I should be looking for.

The other problem is the wheels currently on the car seem to have nuts with splines in ( not just one per wheel either!) as opposed to a hex. Will a tyre company be able to remove these easily without damaging the car. I don't care about the wheels as are rubbish.

Your original tyre size is 205/50/16. Type tyre calculator into your usual internet search engine and take your pick. they will help you with tyre choice/size so you should be able to pick a 17" tyre the same circumference as the original 16's so the car reads correct mph.

As for your wheel locker nuts, i normally do them myself using brute force and sockets or security hex's. Some tyre/exhaust places can do this for you but they will charge an arm and a leg for the pleasure of getting them all off. You should have a bash yourself if you can.

worst case scenario is cut them off with a blow or plasma cutter.

send me a picture of the locking nut with the splines, i may have a locking nut adapter that will take them off for you.

I've had a look at tyre and various makes. What makes are good to go for? Believe it or not I think I'm quite a sensible driver! I won't be using the car on track days , just want something safe, not overly expensive or a ditch finder!

What about the picture attached? Are they wrx wheels?

Thanks for the offer of the wheel nut remover. I'll take a photo tomorrow. Should I be considering offset and 100mm "OCD" also?

And a nicer ride too - I commute in my Terzo on post '96 UK wheels, and it's a much nicer place to be over mid-winter pot holed roads than my previous car on 17" Rotas was.

My RB5 has 17's on it, standard. I'd definitely stick with classic wheels on a classic though, anything else just looks rubbish. I borrowed some like the ones on the picture of the wagon, and to be honest, it looked quite good. Thought I might get some for the winter, but never got round to it.
