How much should I expect to pay for new shocks and fitting?
Discussion
Hi guys - hoping to get everything sorted on the car this year (only bought her last September)..but will see how far down my wish list I can get (full respray, recarpet, shocks).
It currently still has the shocks it came with (mk1 2000) and it doesn't feel the best so hoping an upgrade will sort this. I live in the South and am considering using Str8 6 for my service/upgrade needs (even though a well known dealer is literally around the corner from me (I live in Ash) - when they replaced the windscreen a couple of weeks ago they scratched the paint with clamps in multiple places, missed their deadline, didn't keep me updated - bleh, anyhow no matter at the mo as she needs a respray anyway - but won't be taking it back with a new paint job!
Are str8 6 a good company to go to for my Tuscan needs? Anyone had the bump steer upgrade? Any idea how much I should expect to pay for a set of nitrons + fitting/setup? I'm hoping (money permitting) I can afford a 12k service + bump steer upgrade (if worth it) + new shocks.
Thank you!
Darren

I have a 2000 car and have the Nitrons. No need for the bump steer mod on mine, just get a good geo set up.
As you are in Ash, why not try Andy at APM in Liphook, he recently serviced my car and has done for the past few years. Str8six also have a very good reputation and recently reconditioned my throttle bodies. I wouldn't use the dealer you had a bad experience with if they were the last available. I won't say anymore.
Nitrons aren't cheap but well worth it IMHO. I think you will be looking at around £12-1300 fitted plus a geo set up. Str8six will do this as part of the 12k service.

Hi,
Cost of nitrons is generally £1195 inc VAT. That is for the Nitron NTR R1's the R3's are a bit overkill for the road...
Nitron actually recommend str8six for fitting. I've not used them myself but Jason has an excellent reputation with fellow owners on here.
Colin at TVRSSW is selling sets for £1399.99 including fitting and set up to your preference. Colin also has an excellent reputation and I have recently experienced his attention to detail which is excellent (issue whilst visiting parents over Xmas) unfortunately he is all the way down in Somerset but gives you an idea of the cost.
The main thing is to take it to a nitron recommended service centre.
I am looking to do the exact same things as you...
For the interior, check out dave the trimmer www.davethetrimmer.com he has done plenty of work on Tuscans and there are some nice examples in his website. I am looking to get mine done around Easter time!

Are you planning on using the car on track days or just the road? If you're using it for just the road then I personally wouldn't go for Nitrons! Don't get me wrong they really are the ultimate on offer for the TVR, but they are also very expensive for the benefits they'll give you over something like Gaz gold pro's at around £600. I have them on mine, they are also alloy bodied, bump/rebound/height adjustable and mine are pretty compliant and I'm very happy with them. The last Tuscan I went out in with Nitrons on was very crashy and tramlined all over the road much worse than mine, and it'd not long had a full geo check! In my opinion they are a much better than standard upgrade and for the road I'd rather save myself £600 to spend on something else. I wouldn't fit the standard Gaz golds however! ;-)
edited to add also that Str8six are deffo worth going to.

Hey, my story is the same as the Op's, spookily similar. I live in London but keep my car at my parents near Farnham. I currently have my car in with Davethetrimmer to have the carpet done, I started a thread on it couple of days ago. He is a top bloke and saw an amazing T350 which had just been totally done seats and all, amazing!
A quick story about the difference between one dealer and another... After I bought my car I wanted to take my carto get it checked over, there was a very well known dealer which has been mentioned in the ash area. Charged £220 to tell me there were a few minor issues and then tried to sell me a new engine upgrade and some really expensive suspension!
Then heard about STR8SIX took it there, they went over it with a fine tooth combe and didn't charge a bean. Found a few very serious problems which would have cost me around £5,000. Luckily bought from a dealer and with a lot of effort from Jason and Chas got the dealer to sort it all out. I am so grateful for their help, I know it was in their interest to help but they really are superb and very easy to deal with.
Suspension wise, it is a very personal thing. Nitrons are of course excellent but very expensive. I think for road use Gaz Gold Pros are spot on, from what I have seen and felt it is all about the set up. You could spend £4000 on ohlins and if it is set up badly then you may as well have left it standard. About £850-900 gets you the Gaz Pros well set up. As I said it is very personal and depends on your budget and where else the money could go.
Where are you thinking of getting a re spray? That's big bucks! By the way, what a cool car, if I had a penny for every thumbs up from other motorists I could afford a sag!

Hey Christian, I am in Blackheath, near Greenwich. The car isn't always up here with me because I don't have a garage. The T350 I saw while I was at his work shop is awesome, almost had car envy! If mine is done as well as the T350 I will get him to do a few more bits for me. This is the next best thing to taking up to Blackpool me thinks. Where in London are you based? Would be keen to see Daves work as i'm getting ready to get mine done!

Cheers guys - though I plan to have the odd track day in the future I just want the car to feel good, drive-ability above all (bump steer etc. is very annoying =p - I want the car to feel like an extension of me!) - I certainly would be happier to take a cheaper option (Gaz gold pros) if it will do the job just as well.
I was planning to get it resprayed at SP-Automotive - I know S6 Devil had a good experience with them?
At the same time also getting splitter fitted, tuscan 2 S "water catcher" boot lid - led wrap light around Tuscan symbol on rear acting as a high brake light - front grill sprayed to match anthracite wheels - rest of car all sprayed dark candy red =)
At least that's the plan!

edited to add also that Str8six are deffo worth going to.
I've had GGP's and Nitrons, and the latter are worth the cost if you can afford/justify it IMOedited to add also that Str8six are deffo worth going to.

I had GGPs and geo done at TVR power - around £800 i think.
I had already replaced all wishbone bushes and both toe adjusters which were seized solid - once set up it made a huge difference.
Added the 3mm spacers to the front later in the year and it was a step up again.
I still have some bump steer i think - something to tackle at some point - i only really notice it on bouncy roads when im pushing on - but things go wrong quickly so i would feel more confortable knocing i'd eliminated as much as possible.

Lotus Factory now use Nitron as their Exige V6 upgrade for a reason.
Totally agree I wasn't saying they weren't better, just for the road probably not worth double the price...imo. I went out in a Tuscan with Nitorns down the same road I drive mine to work sometimes and it was crashy and all over the place fighting the bumpsteer, whereas mine drives very well over it, it may be due to mine being an S and having different geo, but he had a geo set up and spacers too. If money is no object get Nitrons. Lotus Factory now use Nitron as their Exige V6 upgrade for a reason.

I've had Nitrons on mine for 9 years now and really like them, although haven't tried GGPs so can't compare.
The biggest impacts on mine have been the dampers, 3mm wheel spacers and having the rack height set properly to sort the bump steer.
I'm currently on 12 year old original dampers and have the 3mm spacers and higher rack height adjusted and I can happily drive with one hand, only really bad roads at speed require 2 hands, much like any other car really... Roll on new coilovers! The biggest impacts on mine have been the dampers, 3mm wheel spacers and having the rack height set properly to sort the bump steer.

I went for the same on Cerbera S6 I think the GGPs are great at the price, had them set to "fast road/track" by Dom at Power and the ride is great. full confidence through sweeping bends.
