When it all goes wrong...

On my way to Stratstone in Park Royal. Next to me was AA truck with an Aston on it, dent in the door and a blacked out number plate. As I passed it it seemed to by MX 08 ..... something. Dont know why someone would go to the bother of blacking out the plate unless owned by someone "famous" ( or who thinks they are!).

Arrive at Stratstone. Boy are they holding so stock. No wonder there is £20,000 dealer contribution and 0% finance. There were probably 50 new and used cars.

Outside the workshop was this rather crunched Aston. No number plates but a sicker on the back "Federal Republic of Nigeria" or something similar which gave a clue as to who was driving. More surprisingly the car was deemed reparable. Not sure about you but I am not sure I would like to drive it looking at the extent of damage.

As an aside if you have DB9 door modules replaced to the current issue ones (like me! ) then the mirror dip on reverse no longer works. This is a known "feature" apparently. The computer lets you enable them but nothing actually happens. At least the doors lock now so cant complain!

Probably not going through the insurance for repairs so doesn't want people doing a search of it and coming up with talk of damaged cars.

You never know who is going to be taking random pictures of damaged Astons and then posting them on the internet for speculation...

Ouch I think someone needed lessons on how to drive an Aston properly

From the look of the damage, this wasn't a little shunt in the rush hour traffic, looks like someone's lost control of it somewhere

Ahh ... well the flaw in that is had the number plate not been blacked out I would not have taken a blind bit of notice! I assumed the car was something special that would have a Pitsonheads story so out with the iphone!

I have often seen cars on recover trucks with the number obscured. It's a common practice.

Recovery drivers all cover number plates now. Think it's something to do with people cloning cars they assume are going to be off the road for a bit.

Seen this with ordinary cars too, I guessed it was to avoid ANPR cameras getting confused.

Often it's just a couple of stripes of black tape.

Ah, that might be the reason.

The suggestion to avoid cloning is possible, but don't dishonest people need to find the number of a car, that is an exact twin of their own, including the colour?
Then it would not raise any suspicion, when clocked by ANPR.

I am of course no expert on such matters, I just pay every motorist tax that the politicians dream up.
