I have a chimaera 500 with the ACT induction kit, sleeved exhaust, no pre-cats and no main cat and am after a new cam. I don't do any track days and drive the car in a mix of ways (some spirited driving, some town driving, some motorway and country driving). So basically the driving I do is quiet standard to most on here.

Now I've read loads about the stealth cam on here and not to much about the mc1. My question is one that has been asked loads on here so I'll ask again once more from the masses.

In lay mans terms which is better. Both are the same price so which do I go for.

The Stealth cam can shunt at low speed on some engines even though the peak power is good. You might want to consider something with a slightly lower peak power, but better low speed manners. The current TVR power 5 ltr cam option is a good option.

I'd ask the guys at V8D smile There's been people on here with both and all seem to sing the praises of either as I recall, but I'd suggest difficult to answer unless you've tried both in the same engine...

Personally I'd go for the Stealth smile I have a bespoke grind in mine which Rob descibes as 'somewhere between a Stealth and an H404' but also aftermarket ECU so couldn't really comment on how it would be in a car running 14CUX or the mods that you have...

Not much help I'm afraid but Rob Robertson would give you a straight answer based on what you're looking to get from it....

Both Derek. (DBV8) and I have had excellent experience with the Real Steel Typhoon cam.

No shunting and good power.

Am I correct in thinking with all the exhaust mods, you would have less backpressure? If so would that mean that you would also have less power at low revs, more at top, if that is also true and the gentlemans car works on the road, would he be better off getting a cam to suit the new engine caractoristics, in essence giving back the low down power! He should have all he wants up top anyway, err roads! Or was that a pile of horse muck???

I ran the Stealth cam in my old Griff - good power, good driving manners with no shunting.

I'm now running the TVR power 5 ltr cam option mentioned above as part of a Taraka upgrade and this feels equally good on the road.

That sounds good then. I've had a Power re fresh and it's also feeling good. 885 cam. If everything else is up to scratch I'm sure most work well!

So whats the difference between the stealth and the 885 and what is a "chill cast camshaft"?

The stealth cam may or may not fit in your engine ..best to ask the v8D ,i had a MC1 in my standard 4l ,thought it was great ..nice low down manners but still had a kick ..

Well, My Piper 285 seems a lot better than an MC1 I had, and it DOES tickover nicely.

Just out of interest in which way is it better than the mc1? and have you had the mc1 in the same engine with the same set up? sorry just curious, all the dyno testing we have done the 285 is not very good in all areas, we even spoke to piper about it, i know they changed the lca from the original 285 which DID give a bad idle, to a longer lca.

IMO it depends how you drive the car. I had an MC1 in my Chimaera 450 and loved it. Suited the car as a daily driver (far better than the 224 that was in before it)

As the Griff is a weekend toy, I'd be happier with something a little more aggressive.

I spoke with Rob about both cams and he suggested I post on here for advice. The 885 cam I'd never thought about but will give power a ring for more info. Now why is it some on here have said the stealth will shunt and others have said it won't. I was told with the set up I have if everything is in a good working order there will be no shunting.

The shunting may not be down to the cam, there may be other issues that aren't apparent.

I recently removed a P285 & replaced with a Stealth. Lost 7 hp (could possibly put it down to a different RR), but what is un-deniable is the over 60lb/ft gain in torque. There is no comparison in the drivability, the P285 was all top end compared to the Stealth which means that I don't have to downshift to accelerate & not have to drive around a hole in the power delivery. Also much smoother idle than P285.

Must admit, haven't driven a car with a stealth cam, most people seem pleased with it.

Hi Rob, Not same engine I'm afraid but what I was trying to say in my clumsy way is that from my experiences in changing cams was;
Standard to MC1, noticed not a jot of difference.
Standard to Piper 285, much improved from 3k to 5k revs.
Stealth? Can't comment as never experienced it.
