Knocking sound from right rear wheel when turning left
Discussion
We've had a knocking sound on our Honda Jazz for a while now - sounds alternately like the spare wheel is knocking around in the boot (it's not), someone tapping the inside of the bodywork with a muffled hammer (there isn't), or the wheel catching on something as it goes round (which it could be for all I know).
It is only when the vehicle is turning left, which includes small turns to change lanes on the motorway. The knocking seems to be linked to the speed of the wheel, as it increases in tempo as the wheel speeds up - at motorway speeds it can be a near continuous buzz.
I've read about axle problems, but don't think it is that because sometimes there is no noise at all, and if it was the axle I'd have thought it would be causing more problems than just a knocking sound, i.e. it would have snapped by now.
Any ideas before I take it into a garage?

Please don't take it to Kwik Fit.
Jack it up. Any play in the wheel bearing at all?
+1000. The staff there are tyre fitters, not mechanics and most of them shouldn't even be trusted with tyres.Jack it up. Any play in the wheel bearing at all?
Good point about that bearing. The Jazz has known issues with the rear bearings and I think there may have even been a re-call on them.

hi , its now year 2020 , and i have the same knocking on my jazz exactly like yours - did you discover where was the knocking coming from and what the problem was ?It is only when the vehicle is turning left, which includes small turns to change lanes on the motorway. Hi,we did get it fixed eventually, but I don't remember what fixed it,probably the suspension, maybe the bushings, but I don't remember exactly. I think it turned out it was coming from the front wheels not the rear. This is what was on the MOT history for that time:
Nearside Front Suspension arm rubber bush deteriorated but not resulting in excessive movement (2.4.G.2)
Offside Front Suspension arm rubber bush deteriorated but not resulting in excessive movement (2.4.G.2)
Nearside Front Track rod end ball joint has excessive play (2.2.B.1f)
There were some others about MacPherson struts, but they reappeared on the MOT advisories again later on when we'd solved the problem, so I don't think it was those.
Hope that helps! You don't have a lake of water in the boot well too, do you?

thanks for the reply, the noise definitley coming from the rear left tyre area, only when turning sharp left and not all the time , i m suspecting it might be shock absorbers going bad as i can not see anything wrong down there . , checked exhaust , wheel bearings ok , springs looks fine and removed everything in the boot including spare tyre just in case something knocking in there , but still no luck finding the sourceThis is what was on the MOT history for that time:

A regular knocking or clicking noise that happens only on or near full lock is usually a tired CV joint.and yes i did have a lot of water in the boot !! but that is all sorted now as i sealed the cracks
