The OH made a mistake

Had this happen to me at work , the bar room lawyer demanded that his right was a new bumper.
My argument was his car was relatively tatty and the paintwork was battle scarred anyway , but no he insisted.
He got a new bumper sprayed to original spec.
A faded red car with a brand new bright red bumper looked rather stupid as he later agreed .
Offered him £50 cash to forget about it , but he knew his " rights "
Stupid man.

someone in my street decided to reverse into my front bumper on my van.
its my every day transport and its a "van" yes its very clean and straight even more so for the mileage.
It was the other half who noticed it happen out of the front window.
she went outside to confront him about the accident and got a bit heated.
I walked outside all calm and pointed out the damage, the guy offered me £40 instead of going though insurance , I accepted , then got a right moaning at would you believe by the other half (my other half) for not demanding a brand new bumper.
In life common sense is needed and to me not used enough nowadays.
had to do a quote for someone in our estate that had very gentle bump on roundabout with someone local.
person popped in to show us his damage , again on old banger of a car , the person who works on our estate offered to pay for us to put it right , really simple repair very similar to OP's , but the other person involved wanted everything to be replaced and brand new.
so now its going through the insurance and going to take along drawn out battle over the type of repair , all on a tatty car.
