A chunck of milled or cast steel is a chunk of milled or cast steel.

I'm not saying there isn't a difference in quality, but I think it's often less than some make out.

Pads can make more of a difference due to the compound and without trying them it's difficult to say. Bedding in the brakes correctly will likely make as much of a difference though.

Pads are cheap, TRW is a budget brand. Same as tyres- cheap ones are probably adequate but won't perform as well as more expensive ones.
Personally I'd stick to brake pads from a known brand.

ETA: Discs, so long as they fit and are free from manufacturing defects, are probably not going to make an appreciable difference with road use.

Evidently not. I must be thinking of someone else (probably a far eastern company trading under a very simular name and logo)

If you are worried about the quality buy OEM from your dealer...

Or buy a brand you know Mintex, Ferodo, Pagid etc etc??
