A serious WTF question, my normal journey of 30 miles now has a grand total of 7 sets of temporary traffic lights, all starting this week. Every journey seems to add another set of lights. Fallen trees, apparently nothing, small hole(and I mean manhole cover size) no problem have a free set of temp lights with dubious phasing and some barricades.

The ones in Biggin Hill now add about 40minutes to the journey time, and I've never seen anyone working there.

On the plus side they can't have many of the fkers left.

Is it using up the budget time?

The last couple of months of the financial year coupled with local authorities having "use it or lose it" budgets - happens this time every year!

There are some temp traffic lights in Cambridge at the moment with a man who sits in a van all day long, his only job is to change the lights depending on which end is busier. Poor guy.

Theres a set of temp lights coming out of North Weald going towards Epping. They have been there for near on 2 weeks now . The first day ,I think it was a burst water main , they came and dug a hole about 4ft square and set the lights up ,stopped the water leak and have just left it alone ! Firstly if they react this quick to dig a hole ,why the censored cant they fix the problem and refill the hole .Secondly why cant they just cone off around the hole (as it is near the offside kerb)so that both way traffic can still pass although perhaps a bit slower ?

I've had a few crop up on my commute as well.

I don't mind temporary lights that much. Sometimes things have to be done which involve shutting one lane, I can totally understand that (although a bit of warning the week before would be nice so that I can plan and leave a little earlier).

What I do mind is that we're in 2013 and we still have temp lights that get stuck on red on both sides. It can't honestly be that difficult to get some lights set up so that if one is red, the other is green...
