I am seeing loads of old 35mm SLR's for sale, obviously as everyone is going digital but I am thinking of getting one to play around with, developing my own film (that's already taken care of as I know someone who can supply me with everything).

I have seen camera's with some nice zoom lenses like Praktica BC1's going for £34 on Ebay and wondered for similar money (I've seen some for less too) what would the recommened SLR's to look out for might be. Nothing over the top just a steady reliable SLR. Thinking Nikon, Olympus, Canon etc...

Ta!

and before anyone says 'what about a Digital', I have a digital camera thanks

My dad picked up a Canon F70 a while back and it produces great pictures and with one of the lenses (the name escapes me) he's able to fiddle to his hearts content.

I think all the main brands are going to be perfectly OK; it comes down to what's available with the features you want. For example, auto exposure, autofocus, shutter speed range, built-in flash etc.

I just sold a Praktica B200 with three lenses, case and flash for £70 - so maybe a package like that would suit you?

I still use an Olympus 0M1-n, lovely camera to use, nice and lightweight but still feels solid.

Thanks for the advice & recommendations. It sounds as though I'm thinking along similar lines.

I'll have a look around and see what I can find.

the Contax 137 is a great starter camera with which you can build up lenses and then upgrade the body

not the cheapest, but certainly a long term choice!

Well since you asked, I'd recommend a Nikon F60. About 5 years old, and also replaced by the F55 and F65, so cheap. My g/f had one and whilst I'd have liked one or two extra features, it was a very sound little camera.

Being a Canon fan I'd recommend having a look at a secondhand EOS 5 or a 50. Not too heavy, not too expensive, not too complicated but plenty of features to explore, reliable, plenty of lenses about... Have a look on Ebay, there's a good variety of choice.

I've had Canon for 18 years, both of my current cameras were secondhand purchases one is about 10 years old, the other I've had over 15 years. Never had them serviced but used them regularly. Won the local camera club print championship twice in a row with them. Yada yada...
