High level/boot lid brake light partially lit

It appears that (looking from the rear) as if the right hand 3 LEDs of the boot brake light are glowing dimly. Not noticed it before but is this an alarm/tracker thing or something else. Car has not been driven for a few weeks. Ideas folks?

Yesterday when my brake lights got stuck on I also had the rightmost three LEDs on the boot light on. Then the battery went completely flat

It's actually very common for 2007> cars. Mostly on Roadsters as it was apparently meant to be a safety feature linked to the alarm. They tried to say it's a safety thing due to the roof that should go out ten minutes after the car is unlocked but never tested that and have since found coupes that did it as well so doubt it's true!

Doesn't take any power from the battery so isn't an issue apart from looking weird. New one is £35 but may do the exact same obviously.
