Hello,

Another thread has made me think of cars which aren't dull when you're stuck in traffic. Imagine that you'll never travel at more than 20mph and you can see how it'll be a bit dull regardless of what car you're in.

But surely some cars are still a bit fun even when stuck in commuter hell?

My flame popping RX7 was hilarious in traffic, although it did come at the expense of some fairly serious shame. And fuel.

Does the driver involvement in something like an Elise drop away to nothing as the speed drops? I don't think so, and even if that is just placebo effect then surely it's still valid because I'm still enjoying it a bit.

And are there cars with interiors so nice/weird that getting stuck in traffic is a treat because you get to fondle the dashboard, or recline on your vibrating panda skin seat, or something?

What do you think PH? Does fun reduce to 0 as speed reduces to zero, or can slow still be interesting?

This totally isn't a what car thread, because my commute is on deserted B-roads.

It's gotta be good in summer when you come to traffic and whack the roof down in a convertible.

Citroens with the adjustable ride height are hilarious in traffic.

This is very true!

The Celica I had was a pleasant car to be stuck in traffic in. It had very comfortable leather seats and the climate control was amazingly good. I also fitted a double-din headunit so I could watch films on the screen!

Bikes have got to be the most fun in traffic biggrin
Followed by having a DVD player or similar in the car I guess.
And then a Convertible.

Yeah, back when I was a silly 20-something, I used to do something similar in my Mercs... Entertained the masses sat in traffic. Embarrassed the passengers sat with me.

My perfect car for my daily grind would be

The body of one of these

The drivetrain from one of these

and one of these nailed to the dash

and garnished with a DAB radio

Pagani Hywyayawyay - get stuck in traffic, gawp in awestruck fashion at the interior.

In seriousness, a convertible is good. Also for when you get to the 40mph average speed cameras on the motorway on a sunnyday. Makes it much less frustrating.

Not so sure. When I had a convertible, getting stuck in traffic was the worst part. On a hot day you fry/burn and then you're breathing in everyone else's fumes!

That's all well and good for the people behind your RX-7, but of little entertainment to yourself. What you need is open manifolds and flame spitting from somewhere that you as the driver can see yes

My ML is great stuck in traffic.

Stop start to keep the fuel economy...

Harmon Kardon 7.1 surround sound, dab, a 7.8" tft with freeview and a DVD and a 128GB USB stick, stuffed with music and movies.

Seats as comfortable as any lounge

and a nice high up seating position that allows you a commanding view of whats going on around you.

Plenty of 12V sockets to allow you to run a mini fridge and a cup heater to make a brew ;-)

Perfect ;-)

I spend upwards of 20 mins stationary or at a crawl on my commute (Acle straight for those that know and fear it) I recommend a car with a satnav/phone holder, a bluetooth astereo and an episode of Red Dwarf or TED

It's just a happy pkace to be regardless of speed with the top up or down

gurgly 4l straight 6 engine, decent radio too if I want it, high drive position so I can look over the traffic.
