Help! S2 won't start.

I have just bought an S2 as a rolling project and last night parked it in my garage. It had an earth problem as the charge was dropping so I disconnected the battery and put it on charge. In the meantime I cleaned the earth lead contact to the chassis. This morning I connected it all up and it just turns over without even firing. It did used to have a Scorpion alarm but the previous owner tells me its been disconnected, even though the components are still there with only some wires wrapped up under the ignition key section. There is also an isolation switch and I have tried both ways yet still no joy. I am fast running out of ideas. Any help and suggestions would be appreciated.

Pull one of the plugs and check if it's actually sparking would be my starting (sorry!) point.

If it's sparking it's not an immobiliser problem.

Is the fuel pump working?

You should be able to hear it come on when you turn the key to the first position, before you turn the starter.

The fuel guage could be lying to you, never the most accurate of instruments, it may be the previous owner left you with very little fuel in the tank?

I put loads of petrol in and charged the battery beforehand and still no joy. I called the AA and the guy that came over was very thorough. He checked just about every fuse and relay and done various other tests. He says it is definitely electrical. There is no power going to the pump and no power at the coil or the sparks, yet the ignition is live. He couldn't find the problem but gave me the number of an electrician he recons can work wonders on car electrics. He will be over at the weekend and just for good measure the AA man is coming over with him in his own time as he also happens to be a classic car enthusiast and wants the problem solved. So now a wait for the weekend and hopefully it will be sorted. In the meantime any other suggestions that may shed light on the matter are welcome. Thanks for all the replies so far gents.

Unless you disturbed the earth connection, to the ignition system, I would have to go with the immobilizer not liking the cut to its power, and has isolated the pump and coil. Mine has 25amp fuses in the passenger footwell, that shake themselves loose, so that if it fails to start a quick wiggle restores the power, but you say the AA man wsorted through these, so that shoud be OK.
