2.5 V6 anything going for it? 0-60 9.4 seconds 27mpg
Discussion
Been looking at a load of S-type and XJ jags, and some of the best condition S-types in particular, in the Sport flavour, with dark leather interior, low mileage, 03/04 plate's have the 2.5 V6.
I'm finding hard to convince myself it has anything going for it?
Fuel consumption (urban) 19.4 mpg
Fuel consumption (extra urban) 35.8 mpg
Fuel consumption (combined) 27.4 mpg
0 - 62 mph 9.4 seconds
Top speed 140 mph
Cylinders 6
Valves 24 v
Engine power 201 bhp
Engine torque 184 lbs/ft
My old TDI Passat seems to have more going for it
Fuel consumption (urban) 36.2 mpg
Fuel consumption (extra urban) 60.1 mpg
Fuel consumption (combined) 48.7 mpg
0 - 62 mph 9.9 seconds
Top speed 129 mph
Cylinders 4
Valves 8 v
Engine power 130 bhp
Engine torque 210 lbs/ft
Cracking spec for the price...

Obviously its going to be quieter, smoother and more refined than the TDI, but should I be excluding the 2.5 V6 from my search in your opinion? and starting at the 3.0 litre's ?

The 2.5 V6 was a poverty model introduced for slightly better economy while they waited for the V6 diesel to be ready. It vanished as soon as the diesel came out. Think BMW 318 or 114 really - it exists only so that someone can get into the car they want with the minimum possible outlay. In real life the 3.0 will be far quicker and probably use less fuel as it's not being thrashed to make progress.
