Apologies to Chris1972 for another main cat thread but his post has reminded me to ask the question i've been meaning to for some time. Having spent lots (and I do mean lots) on induction and heads I believe i'm getting a really good flow through the new repositioned air filter, large diameter hose, new big air box, triple throttle bodies, cf plenum, 45mm trumpets, fettled manifold, V8Dev tweaked 500 heads and (no precats) exhaust manifolds.... right up to the main cat.

OK Alex has seen big hp gains taking the main cat out, but has anyone else had some major tweaks then done a before and after RR (before and after main cat removal.

I'd love one of Clive's Y's but I'm wondering if i'd see any significant power or torque gains (or worse, lose some). I'd also wonder if a decrease in back pressure, given my cam, would have a detrimental effect. Probably only Rob can answer that coz only he knows what the cam profile is.....Rob shout

Clive, if you read this what are your thoughts please?

Ta muchly,

Chilli

Standard exhaust and all the Cats out ,no problem ! You have plenty of money ditch the lot and go for those ACT one`s..

These offer more torque & bhp on a standard 500 we've seen approx 20 lb ft improvement over standard.

New improved mk 2 Stainless steel ACT Performance manifolds for TVR Griffith and Chimaera, non cat, including Y piece, with the facility to fit cats at a later stage, these are now with our latest improved head flanges, price includes all gaskets including metallic engine gaskets and stainless decat/ cat bolts

I did a before and after RR and gained a fat 20!

Course who knows if it's the cat or an aged cat, (semi blocked).

All our Y pieces are old so who knows?

Going de catted can only help things. As for your worry over loosing back pressure, dont worry. Engines dont want back pressure. If a certain engine is down on power after having back pressure reduced it is probably because it isnt now fueling right. You have a MS ecu so can sort that no problem. Go for it with a nice shiny one from Clive.

2smokes??? Presumably referring to diseasils???

I've emailed ACT to establish what the crack is with fitting a main CAT to the MS13 manifolds (for MOT time) that Daz has mentioned above.

Daz, I'm not loaded mate (I'm just a ships cook), I just have an OCD about buying stuff for my other half (the car). Yes I know I'm sad, but I feel at home here with the rest of you saddo's wink

Probably not Peter, I'm away at the moment and my current rota has me starting a 30 day trip around the 2nd March frown Usual story... hectic year ahead, difficult to plan anything (as usual)..

I'm also still searching for that 1 bedroom flat with three car garage attached, which is very time consuming smile

A CAT is not just for Christmas you know !

I think it's disgraceful that you all go out and buy 3 CATs and then just ditch them all because you've changed your mind !

On a serious note, does removal of pre-CATs cause any problems at MOT time or shouldn't I ask ?
