Audi A4 track car Should I ??
Discussion
Hello guys wanting a bit of advice off the masses..
I have the opportunity to buy an Audi A4 1.8t Quattro (2000 B6)for £300 and use as a track car.. The car in question is my dads he has had it for over a year and i had it for 2months before him.. (I only sold it because i got offered a Blobeye WRX that i couldn't refuse).. Just before Xmas the audi was Written off by the Insurance company.. It was shunted from behind and the damage doesn't seem to bad no airbags went off, no engine managment light, starts, drives and seems ok accept from some small creases in the rear quarter, Dent in boot lid scuffed bumper and the cd player jamed..
So do i buy it and use it as a track car..
Thanks

Why do you see the touring car in your mind? Get it vinyled up, see it in your garage! Thanks

Agree, easy 300bhp.. f
kload of weight to shed. Bargain car, that you know is sound. Parts etc a plenty.
What's to go wrong?
My thoughts too, you're blessed with it being a quattro one. A little less so that it's a heavier B6, rather than a B5, but all the same it'll be great fun!

Decent pads and tyres, and a proper full geometry setup, you'll be surprised what you can do with it

Crap for heel-and-toe, though.

Every VAG car I've owned it as been impossible to heal-and-toe or left foot brake as the throttle is cut as soon as the brake is applied!Decent pads and tyres, and a proper full geometry setup, you'll be surprised what you can do with it

I don't think you'd get that problem with a car of that era - my B5 A4 didn't cut the power either, the problem was more that the brake pedal was so damn high up and the assistance so strong that you had to be in a real full-anchors stop to reach low enough to get a meaningful blip
I imagine it would be doable on track though.
On most cars that do cut power when the brake's applied, a double-tap on the throttle while braking stops it and gives you control again.

Is it just me that thinks an A4 would make an awful track car then? Better off with a cheap old 106 xsi or something?
It's not just you. Perhaps strip it out and fit sportier brake pads and fluid, use it for a season then give it away. It certainly isn't a car worth throwing money at. See it as a bit of a 'last hurrah' and it could be a lot of fun. Also, I wonder whether it'd fit into any rallycross competitions? Now that would be fun.

Nope, not just you, I'm not really understanding the enthusiasm TBH.Of course you could track it, but in standard form it's just going to eat through tyres and brakes, understeer everywhere and feel painfully slow.
You could spend many £100's or £1000's of pounds on uprated brakes, suspension, tyres, tuning, setup and weight reduction but that money would have been better spent on something that is more suited to the task in the first place IMHO.
