Looking through some stuff tonight, I came across ...

  • 300 German Marks
  • 3,000 Spanish Pesetas
  • 720 French Francs
  • 179,000 Italian Lire
I also think I've got a few hundred Swedish Kroner somewhere.

Is this worth anything or should I just bin it all?

Cheers,

Eric smile

The marks are still worth something AIUI, not sure about the others. There are specialists who will exchange them if you google.

The national central banks still exist as part of the Euro system and are/were responsible for exchanging old denominations to new Euros just as the Bank of England does with old Pound Sterling notes here.

Unfortunately, it looks like you're too late for Italy (2011) and France (2012) as the deadlines have passed.

But Germany will continue exchanging indefinitely while Spain will exchange until 2020. Both have arrangements for exchanging by post.

for the Italian Lire, shame you can't change them as they are nearly €100

Eric - will a charity take any of it? Have only skimmed posts and sounds like some is easily exchangeable and some not - if the amounts are too small (can't remember - chemo brain smile ) for even a good Aberdonian, then some of the larger charities may have a mechanism to exchange? Just a thought.
