Well it all starts a few weeks ago. My mates a mechanic and sort of inherits an MX5. So we start talking about getting back into some sort of track stuff again, used to do a few track days here and there when I had my Hondas. So obviously a couple of cheap little MX5's make perfect sense!

Start the hunt for a cheap MK2 and found one about an hour away. So I casually mention it to the mrs the night before and she just sort of laughs it of. Since she didn't have a major strop and tantrum about it (I've been here plenty times before regarding motorbikes, quads, crossers, etc) I treat it as her seal of approval! The following day I'm telling my mate how she's fine with me getting another toy. He then says that we could go that afternoon as he had a kind of quiet day, perfect! So we get the truck fired up and head through in the afternoon, do the deal and collect the car. We're on the way back and I'm thinking, "better tell her I've got one". But how do you tell her? Do the manly thing and phone her and tell her straight? Nah, send her a picture of the car on the back of the truck! That'll do.......

I didn't even have time to put my phone in my pocket than it starts ringing! fk! This is not a good sign! Ah but maybe she's just super excited and wants to share in my happiness of buying another toy. Or then again, perhaps not! She was going ding dong on the phone! Like absolutely mental! I probably didn't do much to try and diffuse the situation right enough. So the journey home consisted of lots of phone calls, lots of hanging up on each other and my mate buckled with laughter. Brilliant.

So that night was ever so slightly frosty. Had a right good "debate" about it. I kinda see what she's saying since we're due to start building a house this year but for what the MX5 cost me it's a mere drop in the ocean compared to building a bloody house! Plus it's only a car, so I can sell it on if I want/need to.

Anyone else done the same kind of thing? What was the Mrs reaction? Or is it just mine that's absolutely nuts......

Mines is quite happy for me to come home with any car I want at any time and it genuinely doesn't bother her. She has asked though that I don't come home with motorbikes, as she reckons I'll kill myself and to be fair she is probably right.

I did it, with an mx5 in fact.

She went mental.

I then broke it driving it home.

She went more mental.

WE then bought another one and moved all the goodies over (coilovers, roll bar, LSD).

She loved it.

Strange creatures.

Why can't it? Me and the missus both have jobs, we pay our bills and whatever is left is our own money to do what we want with.
She might spend 50 quid on makeup and I might buy a new toy or bit for the car.
Our money, our choices smile

It does work in my experience. I make far more money than she does therefore I cover most of the bills and because of that she would have a hard time telling me what to do with the remainder, especially since I hold down a job I hate for the higher reward.

Good gracious no. It's hers too you see, nevermind the [insert random clothing purchases here] that she's just bought for £x00, you can't spend!

I keep asking myself "How would I react if she conspired to spend a grand on shoes without bringing it up in conversation first?", then I tell her about things like an adult would.

I have a similar tale after a conversation at a festival

Her " I hate bloody tents "
Me " Well you wnted to come "
Her " Not sleeping in a tent again "
Me " Ok "

We left said tent pitched at festival packed our stuff and just walked away,
Whiling away time on Ebay the following week I spotted a VW type 4 van for spares or repairs just up the road, bought it very cheap and stored it at a mates workshop, I fixed it and my mate painted it and then took it home, she hated it until she had to use it because she broke her car, and now loves it and wants a newer one, as one poster said strange creatures women.

I picked up a second Niva the day our son was due. Or more importantly it got dropped off at our house before I had time to "discuss it".

This is an amusing thread - I've been telling the missus for a few months that I want a new motor. Even pointed it out a few times in copies of Evo in my bedside cabinet. She pretty much ignores me and doesn't really believe that I'm serious. But then when I tell her in the cold light of day that I really am saving up for it she goes a little bit loopy saying how we need to buy stuff for the house like wardrobes, sofas and payments towards to mortgage etc.

If I was single I think I'd be completely skint though so she's a good influence!

Substitute the "my" for "our" and you'll get the idea.

I'm safe until the car that is to be replaced hangs around too much.... Then she get's a tad ansty....

The last one was causing me so much grief by not working that I sold it for half of what I paid for it (not that much!) just to get a peaceful life back.

I bought another old motorbike a little while ago, paid for it and was arranging for someone to collect it for me.

I still live with the parents and unfortunately mum picked up the phone when a recovery guy rang regarding the collection. I was simply told I'm not filling her garage with even more st. mad I had to try and cancel the transaction and thankfully the seller understood my situation and sent me a full refund.
