2 random questions

1, Ive some how managed to set the radio so the 'news' interupts CD's that are playing, how do I stop this (the radio is one of the CD+Cassette double din type)

2, My car is a little damp inside, would putting a tray of rice in the passenger footwell eleviate this? if now what else could I do?

Since all stereos are different it would be hard to advise how to turn off the news reports. I have a button on mine called 'News', by pressing that toggles it on and off. Does yours have anything similar? Otherwise it might be best to google your make and model number to find the instructions online.

I wouldn't put loose rice in the car, although in practice it should help. You can buy (big) silica gel bags, which I'm going to do myself as my Clio has a leaky roof and is very damp. Just keep it under the car seat and it should do the job.

On my head unit theres a button that cycles through all the settings you can change, the one you're looking for is called TA (traffic announcements), switch it to off.

As said above, TA is the setting you're looking for on the radio.


Rice etc may stop the damp, but it's not going to solve the problem. Water is getting in somewhere.

Forget the rice in a tray, that's only going to get in the way and spill everywhere and make a mess! Get yourself to Pets at Home and buy a bag of their special Silca Gel cat litter. £4.75 for a big bag. Chuck some in a sock (one that matches your upholstery, natch!) and sew up the top. Place sock in car and forget about misting problems.

Have you checked to find out why its wet? Check the hood drain tubes and sill drains for a start. Until you stop the water getting in its pointless trying to dry it up.

Every convertible I have owned has leaked to a greater or lesser extent. I found that putting two of the cheap dehumidifier packets you can buy from the £1 shops works pretty well. One in the Boot one in the car. Keeps a lot of the condensation down within the cabin and they last several weeks.

Careful refitting and adjustment of the hood and judicious gaffer tape (stylishly placed) will reduce any leaks, But all hoods leak especially in the rain.

Not true. I've had MX5s for 15 years and never had a leaky hood. If the hood is leaking then it's either cracked or shrunk or the rain-rail is cracked.
There are plenty of other places for an MX5 to leak; HT mounting bolts, boot seal, rear light seals, aerial, door seals, hood front seal etc. but all are fixable.
