or wait 2-3 months for prices to rise. Selling a summer car in the middle of winter = lowest possible value.

Shop around too, some dealers always take the p*ss!

Trade up to what, may we ask? smile

No because you will pay less now for another summer hooner than you will in summer!

So its "Lose-Win" or "Win-Lose" - its broadly the same, probably better to do it now if you are trading up, and better to do it in summer if you are trading down.

Whats the car you have in mind then?

Funny isn't it....

Your car just isn't in demand..... Wrong colour, to many miles, not enough miles, wrong accessories, marmite interior...
Can only offer less than bottom book....

Our car on the other hand.... Perfect specification, buyers queuing to get their hands on it.... Massive demand..
Have to ask top book.....

Of course we could all just be really honest with each other if we wern't hung up on giving dealers a healthy profit margin.
You know the sort of thing:
"I'll give you 60k for your V12V so you can buy that new dealer specced car they are offering to give you 25k off list"
I'll then sell my 4.7 V8V for someone desperate to get into a newer Aston for 40k
They will then sell they older higher mileage 4.3 V8V for 25k to introduce someone to the marque.

Maybe that would be the true win-win?

What Glyn says

A dealer sold my V8 for £10k more than I sold it for and my assumption was I would probably realise another £5k on the top of my selling price.

That was set against unknown "potential" buyers or tyre kickers if I sold privately. To me it was clean and simple going the dealer route.

Selling to a unknown individual except for their presence on a forum is a half way house I would have opted for but that in itself is a little troubling.

No doubt strong deals on trade in's, 0% finance and some man maths will depress pre owned values. It's a pity AML don't take a leaf out of Ferrari's book in protecting residual values.

Also you need to shop around. My local dealer offered me £10,000 less and would not budge from what I was offered by a dealer up north. This was a straight sale so no massaging figures on a trade in.

Also it wasn't because he had a customer lined up as it was in his showroom for a couple of weeks before selling.

When I sold my V12 last July I was pleased with my trade in and the car was sold on again within a week. However, the dealer gave me options. 1. I will offer you X! Or 2. will put it in my showroom for a month and make an agreed commission - either way make them work for it.....

Perhaps the market is stalling.
I have noticed some cars on the AM Pre-owned list, that have been on sale for months.

The following comment was made about a high stock level, on another topic.

Arrive at Stratstone. Boy are they holding stock. No wonder there is £20,000 dealer contribution and 0% finance. There were probably 50 new and used cars.

Here's the rub.

Love the V12V, classy, beautiful....etc. But for me there are more enjoyable, lighter morning hooners out there. Apologies, this is only my opinion, and many will disagree I'm sure. For me, the V12V is the ultimate GT car, not the ultimate Sunday morning hooner.

Lucky to also have a 73RS , which for me on a Sunday hoon, remains the best car I have ever driven. Ironically, it Is becoming a worry to drive as values have rocketed, so the enjoyment is tainted with a gut gnawing fear of realising a steel and sheep combo...which can happen...and wiping serious value off in an instant.

The RS is a keeper. Will never sell.
So require, as near as I can, a car that will offer me the same shout out loud joy that car gives me,on a road with no traffic through the black mountains.

Driven a few contenders, and have 3 finalists, but all have issues.

1) A 458. Superb, small, light, sound.....but you look a tool driving one in public and no manual shift. Also biblical depreciation and mileage sensitive.
2) GT3RS....tactile, light, manual....but 3 times the size of the RS and has the whiff of chav as regards that Saxo wing and graffiti on the wings.

3) A Singer / ultimate Chris Harris 911 RSR homage .....hugely expensive and you could never sell....ever. Market smaller than that of the Zonda. Try and find a decent one too.

So stuck at present....

Nobody's going to disagree with that Robbo - bit unsure about the GT moniker but that's just semantics - there will always be a better car round the corner. That's part of the fun.

Good luck with your quest smile

If the car is appreciating in value and it's a keeper then why worry about the steel & sheep combo. You'll only realise the value if you sell and if you don't plan to sell then it doesn't matter - insurance will always cover repairs should the worst happen.

As a pure Sunday morning hoon car, you could do worse than a Caterham Superlight or an Elise derivative if you want more 'luxury'! Keep the V12V and add a Caterham to the fleet - not got the same prestige as say a 458 but I'll bet it puts just as much a smile on your face for B road blasts, possibly more.

e.
Because it will be handed down...and knocking possibly the best part of £100 k off for a shunt doesn't appeal.
The 'beard' market would also not touch it, so no doubt it would be bound for the Hong Kong market , as the majority of right hookers are. I hear the Import duty is the same value approximately, as the car, so they are willing to pay over £500 K for a decent RST and more for the rarer RSL.
Agree about he Exige....just something about spending north of £60k on a Lotus, which is unappealing.

What's the cost to spec one from the factory? Less than a 458 I would expect..? Although it will probbaly just be a MUCH faster verion of your RS?

I'd be thinking something like an Eagle E-Type? Same classic spirit as the Singer but able to fly along like a modern car.

Or a nicely built C or D-Type Jag built to your spec... Now that is a Sunday morning hooning car smile

Singer is £250-300k+....attention to detail is insane and it's supposed to be a proper drivers car but it's one hell of a lot of money - not sure it's any more 'usable' than your RS if you're worried about value ! :-) THough whilst not cheap, I guess it's 'easier' to repair...
