Random folding wing mirrors!

Just picked up the V8V, only one problem, the wing mirrors keep retracting in and then folding out again randomly. I spoke to the dealer who was very sympathetic but said he could do anything today as none of the technicians in. It would have to wait until Monday. It is such a lovely day today, I want to drive it now!

Just wondering if you guys have any ideas on a fix, or what fuse I could pull to just keep them folded out?

Hi Gerry,

have a go at pressing and holding the two mirror buttons together until they either fold in or out for a few seconds and then release them. Then press them together again and immediately let go. Open and close the mirrors by this method a few times making sure that the mirrors open then press the buttons again and they close.

I' not sure if there is a reset procedure, like with the windows, but anything is worth a go, it might work mate, give it a go.

You can't as they randomly fold in and out, so when they fold in I can make them go out again but 1 second (or it might take 30 seconds) later they fold back in again. If I leave them they just fold back in on their own, and back out again!

Dealer said to disconnect the negative on the battery and then reconnect again, that didn't work either.


This si a bbit more than a niggle, you can't really drive the car without side mirrors and even if I did, I would look a right plonker in an AM wirh door mirrors that constantly fold in and out!


Oh well, they wil have to fix it next week, just would have been great to use today!

Astons have a mind of their own, this is a prime example.

Like you said about my quirks I am getting fixed, its nothing major. However its just an inconvenience and stops you enjoying your car Hopefully your not too far away from the dealer like me, so you can just pop it in, the technician can plug it in and a minute later it will be fixed.

Hello mate, thanks for trying to help. Dealer is only 10 miles away, I can't get there until Tuesday but will take it in first thing then. They got hold of their technician on the phone today but he has never seen or heard of this problem.
Oh well, I was warned about the quirky nature of an Aston! Just really furstrating that it can only be looked at and not driven!

Can't recall but is there a specific fuse? If so try pulling that to reset them.
IIRC they can also be deactivated in the menu.

Cheers Mikey, I had a look at the fuse numbers in the owners manual. The only related one I could see was for the whole door panel!

I think the menu deactivation only applies to 2009 cars or later, willing to be corrected on that.

Hi Gerry,

you are right, you can't do anything with the mirrors via the car menu as your car and mine doesn't have that option. I am afraid it is the technician that will have to connect the laptop to your car to sort it out. He will also be able to hopefully tell you if there is anything wrong with the mirror sensors. I hope it is just a reset, anyway, its under warranty

Yes, the warranty is a very nice thing to have, takes lots of worry out of the buying process.

This issue has nowt to do with the warranty....considering you only picked up the car TODAY !!!

The embarrased Dealer will be / should be jumping through hoops to sort this out quickly for you

I know Jockman, I am merely saying the warranty is a good thing to have. You are right this needs to be sorted, warranty or no warranty.

The embarrased dealer is bending over backwards, so no issue there. I took this car for a test drive 2 days ago and I know it did not have this problem then, so I am comfortable that this problem has literally just happened rather than them knowing about it before sale. I only have good things to say about Grange Brentwood so far.

It sounds as if someone buggered it up during the pre-handover prep.

My drivers side mirror sometimes does not fully unfold.
I just use the manual button method to close then open. Takes a second.

Hi Steve, this is a very different problem and judging from responses here and from dealer, quite a unique one.
