Strange thing with headlamps when I hold down the indicator

Car is a 2011 Countryman Cooper S All4.

I have noticed that when I hold down the indicator the headlamps go out... seems a bit odd!
Let go - they come back on!

The lights are set to auto.

To get to my house I need to turn left, then left again and in most cars you have to hold the stalk down to keep the signal on.
I drive an audi most days and I just hold the stalk down to keep the left signal on no probs.
On the mini, after about 2-3 seconds all the lights go out :/

Did it last night going round a round about - I am sure had there been a police car there they might have asked WTF was I doing..

So - is this normal? Or does it have a fault?

I've had two hatches with auto lights and neither has behaved like this. It's a safety issue so needs to be fixed asap (even if "they all do that sir").
