as above

2002 107k miles st170, just had service and new cambelt before i bought it 3 weeks ago

it is suffering from quite pronounced stuttering under acceleration particularly 2nd and 3rd

once into 6th it goes really well, averaging pretty much 37-38mpg

sometimes it accelerates without stuttering so a bit stumped, thinking now its electrics rather than mechanical

took it for a quick blast last nighy and in fourth it really struggled to rev past 4.5k

any ideas what it could be

cheers
steve

Is it almost like the revs are dropping or hesitating whilst accelerating?

I had this on my fiesta st, ended up having a new coil pack. Just a suggestion,

Same here for coil pack, replaced on sportka. Only happened under heavyload around 1-2k revs, showing signs of it again now frown

Yup, had this on my 2003 Focus and it was the coil pack. Start there, they're cheap and easy to replace.

Have you checked and cleaned the crank sensor and or reset the rev limiter?

Well there is definitely something wrong with it, i struggle to get 28mpg out of my 1.8 Focus, let alone 38mpg from an ST170!
