...if you'd be so king.

Lurking on here and enjoying the articles and general gassing for far too long. Finally signed up mainly due to the Adrian Flux competition that was launched (Fantasy Garage in "My Garage" will be the selection once I win please!!)

Anywho, the reason for the topic is as a 24 year old I'm struggling to find reasonable classic car insurance for my MX-5 Eunos.

I have a 330ci as a daily and the MX-5 is sitting in the garage accumulating dust and looking sorry for itself.

Now the options I have are to pay £600 for a 3,000 a year limited mileage policy through the aforementioned Flux, however I find this almost double what I'd accept.

I've spoken with the majority of other recommended insurers with no luck due to my age - at 25 with the same details a helpful lad at Lancaster "quoted" me £290 which is the ballpark I'm aiming for.

Essentially my ramblings are pleading for some help with insuring the little Jap tinker now, otherwise it'll be sold and unlikely to be replaced for a number of years due to houses etc.

Sorry about the essay, not how I planned my first post! I promise to be more cohesive with future postings smile

1. I am king correct
2. If you win the fantasy car ill cry
3. Under 25 means unlikely to get a decent quote for classic insurance

Have you tried Footman James. They used to do a TPFT policy for under 25s in my Triumph Spitfire days, so they may do you a similar deal for the MX-5.

Tried FJ - flat no to any quote, unfortunately the same I've had each time other than AF and Admiral, which was to be added to a Multi-Car and not specifically classic car.

I'm sure I've exhausted most options, I'm just hoping some bright spark can think of another option

Are you 25 this year? Might be worth waiting...if only a few months away.

25 in November - too long to have it sitting in the garage taking up space and not having an exciting car only makes my browsing of the classifieds a more serious affair - I've nearly picked up the phone on a number of cars on the basis of px'ing both current cars.

My current dastardly plan is to grow older, quicker - the details aren't there yet but it's the most promising idea to date

Maybe try it on a normal policy rather than classic? I'm only 27 and got quoted £300 on one of the comparison sites for an mx5 for fully comp loads of miles. Also try Highway. I have been using them to insure my cars for the last few years and they are always a few hundred £ less than anywhere else and I have just had a renewal notice through for one of them which is £100 less than last year!

On a normal policy, fully comp I was quoted 450 quid on a 1.6 mk1 MX5 for 10,000 miles a year. I'm 23 with 5 years NCB and a clean licence. It was cheaper to insure a 5 than it was for my trusty MK3 diesel Golf.

I have only just realised the embarrasing first sentence, of first post, spelling fail - what a tit.

I had a "incident" at the end of 2011 which whiped my NCD completely - I've got the bmw at a price that doesn't make me cry, but not prepared to pay similar for a 2nd car

Well not for a 20 year old, 1.8 MX-5 anyway...

Appreciate the suggestions though - if anyone has anything else I'm all ears, otherwise it'll be advertised come spring

Having a second car policy shouldn't be affected by your NCB, as it can only be had on one policy.
Are you a member of an owners' club? FJ and others may be more willing to insure you if you are. It may be worth contacting one of the owners' clubs to see who they recommend for insurance.

Will Admiral not do multicar? Can save a bit on some cars.

If you're just going to use it occasionally, could you just put it on as a temporary additional vehicle for a month every now and then?

Tell me when though as its a convertible its bound to piss it down for a month when you do this.
