Anyone know where to get a cat replacement pipe in the US? Or is there anyone that has the measurements/tools that would like make one for me? If so, let me know the price etc.

Thanks

Should be much easier and quicker to order from Marcus, no?

Be real careful treading here. The Federalies came down hard on "test pipes, wink, wink" some time back. Also started beating on muffler places. While I am sure you would only use such a thing on a race track on a race track only car that is trailered to and from said race track, I would theoretically suggest you keep the theoretical discussion off list, so to speak.

The one from Marcus is waaay expensive. Unless he has another that is not listed on his website.
Dr Hess, I understand and I am actually more interested to see what difference it makes on a dyno. If it is significant, I have no problems spending a larger amount of $ to purchase a larger/more efficient cat. However, I would like to make sure it will be a worth while difference before spending that kinda cash. In any event, North Carolina does an exhaust test so I wouldn't be able to run a "test" pipe.

Thanks

Why bother, I bought a brand-new never-opened Magnaflow 3" high flow *stainless* cat from Ebay for $79. There's a dealer that sells only cats. Don't mess with a test pipe!

Here you go: www.performance-curve.com

Perfect Luke! Which one did you go with? Did it bolt right in? Did you notice any difference after the change?

Thanks

Hmmm,

Don't most guys wait for the old ceramic 'brick' to break down and then clean it out so the sun shines thru?

Step 2 is getting the replacement emissions legal cat beastie up and tested. Don't the Brits have a rent-a-cat thing going on?

Best of both worlds I'd think. Not many get pulled over by the 'smog police'. Although I have with a class 8 tractor once.

That's the thing... I'm having a custom exhaust built and will be incorporating it in the design. You seem to want quick and easy, so maybe this isn't the best idea after all.

The stock cat is very short though so I'd bet you'd have a hard time finding a replacement that will bolt in.

Still, I bet it wouldn't be difficult for a muffler shop to install it.

Luke,

Is 3" the correct size of did you enlarge your exhaust system diameter? I am considering it for my S4s.

I'll take picutres of mine for you. I have a 3" cat, about 5" long, works great is high flow and passes emissions. I have it setup to bolt out so a pipe goes back in place of it too. A muffler shop can make this for you for under $100, no problem. The cat I got from Jegs here:

www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=192834&prmenbr=361

It says it is longer but once you cut the flanges down it is incredibly tiny and will fit anywhere. The center portion is where the matrix is and this is the smallest one I've ever found.

The exhaust I plan to have built will be 3" all the way. Not sure what the stock diameter is.

Sure you don't want to buy some pipe, buy some beer, and drive up here? Jeff and I could fix you up!

Stock is, to my recollection, 2.5" with the nasty cat and bad flame arrestor/muffler that weighs a ton. You can definitely do better on both accounts. Jeff's is still in the basement and I can take pictures or measure if you need.

Yeah, stock exhaust is 2.5" OD from the turbo to the muffler. Just measured it two days ago.

I am planning (still) on a 304 SS manifold. Starting to get my duckies in a row on it. There is an all British car show here in NW AR on 10/9 (ya'll are welcome) sponsered by the local car club (British Iron) and I don't want to be down during that, so I am tentatively planning on starting the project after that.
