S-Max bike carrier advice

Ive got a 2011 S-Max TitX and I'm after a bike carrier for 3 bikes. Looking at halfords website they say you can't use the boot mounted type, so options are roof or towbar. Amazon sell a boot mounted one, anyone got experience of any of these on an S-Max?

I don't like roof mounted as getting them up there will be a pig, and the wife won't be able to do it, and I don't like towbar mounted as it means we'll need to get a towbar fitted and I assume once the bikes are on you can't open the boot which would be a pain.....
