Most unlikely engine transplants..?

Puma 1.7 with non turbo Diesel lump!?
Words fail me!
Very clever and well done to the guy, but so much why, wtf and again why?!
So..
I put it to PH: what's the most unlikely engine transplant you've seen/ done/ found?
Apoligies if repost

bit strange he had the time and energy to do a complete powertrain swap but couldn't be arsed to source a new bonnet and fix up some rust.
Have seen a few other swaps to diesel before - don't really know why you'd go to so much hassle to swap in a diesel block instead of an upgrade to the petrol one. If you want better MPG buy a different car?
As far as other swaps go, those Rover V8 lawnmowers come to mind (youtube)

I took out the 1.8 GTI engine in my Scirocco and dropped in a 1.6 non turbo diesel. Had I done prior research and discovered my 'new' engine only had a mighty 54bhp, I'd not have bothered. Still, 52mpg urban and upto 65mpg motorway was nice. Obviously I couldn't continue with a 19 second 0-60 time so I turbo'd my creation to Mk2 Golf GTD spec. I now have 85bhp and the same 115lbs ft as the GTI engine but usefully, 1,100rpm lower down. I'm still getting 50mpg urban but top speed on the autobahns is now 111mph satnav. Not quite the low 120's from our GTI days but a vast improvement on 87mph sans turbo. Puma 1.7 with non turbo Diesel lump!?

Wouldn't swap back to a GTI motor for all the tea in China

There's a poor old Corrado that someone thought needed the TDI engine from a Caddy.

Oh no, why would anyone do that?!?! http://www.autotrader.nl/klassieker/volkswagen/har...

Spurred on by this week's SOTW, I went looking and found something that I'd have to start this thread for, if someone hadn't already done it.
Take one 1980's well-respected nimble piece of German engineering, and toss in a lump of Aussie thinking. What do you get? Well, obviously a 944 V6

I've seen a Royal Enfield Bullet with a Yanmar ditch pump Diesel engine conversion. Only 45mph, but almost 200mpg and a James Bond smokescreen on demand.
I'm considering a BMW M47 turbo Diesel engine (from a Rover 75) in a triumph spitfire - I reckon that could be good for increasing the performance as well as making it a seriously good long range tourer.

Id love to see it start up on a cold morning just to see the look on peoples faces when it burps out a cloud of black smoke!
White smoke
(unburnt diesel) cos the glow plugs are knackerd
Actually the 1.6 had a chain driven diesel pump so there was less strain on the timing belt so they lasted longer, and err thats it really

I've converted a few classics/retros to diesel so i can't really knock him for it, some people like to be differant, i built a diesl Mk4 escort cabriolet for a mates wife, 55MPG on her monthly trip from Essex to Wales was the aim, not to impress anyone come sale time.
Not such a crazy idea now but I remember back in the early '80s there was a kid at school who know a bloke that fitted Perkins diesels into SerI and II Jag Xj6/12s.
Back at the time, it seemed like a mad, mad thing to do.
I guess back in the ealry 1980s - Series I and II XJs were still sound but very cheap to buy but not run.
I've seen a Reliant Scimitar with a Transit van diesel engine fitted..
I also fitted a Toyota 4EFE (1332cc 16v) engine to my Datsun Sunny rally car (on a Ford gearbox). The 4AGE engine was a pretty popular unit to fit to other cars but I'm not aware of any other cars fitted with a 4EFE in a RWD configuration.
