M Roadster or 968
Discussion
I am thinking of changing my M Roadster for a 968 and was wondering which was the better car. I have owned my roadster for several years and fancy a change, having had a 944 in the past and I loved the car only changing it for the roadster, therefore I would like to know whether the 968 makes a worthy replacement or do I keep the roadster.
Roadster is quicker in a straight line but a bit more wobbly due its soft top nature. I'd have thought they would compliment each other quite well really as a pair. 968 would be more rewarding to drive assuming you are good enough to notice - I often read these things and wonder just how many people really notice the slight improvement in turn in or suspension travel in different cars.
I'd imagine the question would be do I want a 2 seater soft top or a 2+2 coupe.
I'm assuming you have dismissed an M coupe?

I must admit the M Roadster has been a lot of fun it's blisteringly fast in a straight line it's the corners that seem to catch it out even with a strut brace fitted. Also the drop in power from 321bhp to 250bhp in the 968 makes me wonder what the driving experience will be like I have read that the power is linear in the 968 whereas the power is in the upper rev band on the M. In addition
the 968 has rarity value I still see a lot of Z3's on the road although not a lot of M's, however unless you're a petrol head you don't know the difference. I also wonder which will be the more valuable in years to come.

my advice - keep the M - get the two body braces available from StrongStrutt in the USA and HANG ON - they absolutely MAKE the car and transform it into a go-kart.
From 1997 to 2007, I owned 3 x M Roadsters, clocked up over 170,000 miles in total and loved every single minute.
The Porsche will feel SLOW = that Straight Six is an amazing engine and once set up properly - the M can be turned into an amazing care.
Khushy

I have a 968S and there really isnt that much in it between myself and my friends z3 mcoupe the difference is only slightly aparent over 120 mph the lightness of the 968 s or cs really makes a difference, had it on the rollers on saturday it made 238.7 bhp and 284nm (1995 factory power 240bhp and 305nm), also there was my fathers mk1 tt that made 290bhp and 443nm and my 968 is faster everywhere. the 968s/cs despite the relatively low hp really can be a match for higher power cars. i also have a promax 7100 chip in there which extends the revs to 7100 (clue was in the title)
this also helps to keep up with the high revving S50.
this also helps to keep up with the high revving S50. I've had a 968CS and an M coupe.
The coupe for me was by far the better car. Seriously quick and rode much better than the CS.
Pick a standard 968 up with high miles to run for a while and see how you go. They're both holding steady in the market so fingers crossed you won't lose too much.
CS is a great car. The Z3M's are special.

Both are great cars but very different. Much like an E46 M3 owner considering an E30 M3. It will feel slow, old and not that comfortable. That said, both the E30 M3 and the 968 are track meisters. Great fun on the twisties but not so great for cruising and long motorways.
For the same money, you could consider a 996 C2? Think you'll find it a step up whereas the 968 may feel a bit classic.
Have fun choosing!
Also - have a look for a nice 928!
