Sat nav upgrade for AMV8

I think I already know the answer to this but here goes ...

Are there any options, apart from TomTom style units, for upgrading the awful sat nav I have in my AMV8? I pretty much only use it for a rough map of where I am as entering any address details is rather painful.

Any advice appreciated.

Do you mean a Gaydon V8 Vantage (aka V8V)? (AMV8 usually refers to the Newport Pagnell built 'muscle car' from the '70s & '80s: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aston_Martin_V8 )

What year is your car, are you on DVD or hard disc? What year are your DVD discs?

I have a newer set of discs and they work fine, full postcode etc. Easy as a Tom Tom... No... Actually painful... No

They do work and have full postcode search. But, they are only to used as a backup to your own discs. They are copies and using them is therefore software theft. Don't ask how I know they work and have full postcode search

Thank you to everyone for the replies.

It's a 2006 DVD and I have no idea what year the discs are but I would guess as I can't do full postcode they can't be too recent.

What are the differences with the newer discs?

With the DBS style upgrade, that does look an interesting option.

Oh......eh....yes. Back up only......of course, wouldn't think of anything else.

My backup disc arrived today. I popped it in to the satnav, just to make sure it worked of course.

Very pleased with it, big improvement being able to enter full postcode


Obvioulsy now I have taken the backup disc out and put the crappy old original satnav disc back in.

the later disc does help, I dont use it daily but never really had an issue

some of the more modern touch screens ive had in other cars i found more of a PITA

I think my sat nav jealously stemmed from my father in law who has just bought a F10 M5 and the sat nav on that is stunning. As you say, it's not something I use every day but I would be nice if it was a little less poo.

In the past few years I have had a Nissan Murano, E class, A3, Alpina, M3, Jag & Lexus.

Without doubt the best SatNav was the Nissan!


Just got rid of a Jag XF to buy the V8V, now that did have a rubbish SatNav, soooo slow.

isnt it amazing these days how a superb luxury car can be judged by having crap gizmos like sat nav...or bluetooth that dosent quite work perfectly with your latest phone

shame about buying the car to enjoy driving... when it needs to be more like a mobile office

im all for the gizmos and love my Range rover for the 3-4 hour motorway journeys on business ...but for fun, a Caterham or bike or Aston without a stereo is just fine for the pleasure of driving

As other people have pointed out, there are Nissans with better sat navs. For a car that cost over £90k, the satnav from a Volvo is not good enough.

Does it affect the drivability? No. Is it annoying? Yes.
