Performance for your money challange:
Discussion
After watching tonights top gear involving the modified drag racing, I give you a challange:
What would you build for less than £25k, that would put super-cars to shame?
Here are the rules:

What would you build for less than £25k, that would put super-cars to shame?
Here are the rules:
- You have £25k total budget (labor not included, assuming the work is carried out by yourself)
- Any car
- Any mods
- Doesn't have to be road legal
- Dosen't have to be reliable, maybe survive a lap around the Nürburgring if your lucky.
Go

That's going to be fun getting a supra engine to be awd in a scooby , tune it to 600 and stay within 25k
It would be easy to get a car in the 11's for 25k , a 12 second car would show up most super cars
Thread should be what car for 2.5k to show up super cars
Well he said ALL work done your self i presume that included using machines for making new parts? It would be easy to get a car in the 11's for 25k , a 12 second car would show up most super cars

3000GT?
Wonder at what point 4WD becomes a hindrance more than a help over RWD...
Are you serious? they are unreliable in standard trim.Wonder at what point 4WD becomes a hindrance more than a help over RWD...
Obvious answer would be a toyota supra JZA80. Easy and cheapest car to get 750bhp from on standard internals with a chance of it lasting, not ideal but it can be done and a few guys in the states and over here have managed it with purely bolt on mods, possibly more in fact.
Tbh for only one lap of the ring I would just put a tubby on one that flows enough for 1000bhp and go from there, it would last a few laps I reckon

That could be done easily for £25k and if thought out properly not many so called supercars would touch it.

How easy would a 750hp Supra get power down, assuming road legal rubber compared to something 4wd?And you can get four decent GTs for the price of one Supra, which leaves a bigger budget for borkage potential...

Spend the change on a turbocharged hyabusa engine
If you could be bothered

At no point, really. The only reason you wouldn't want 4WD was if you didn't expect your front wheels to touch the ground at all under launch, or if you want to streamline the nose so much you can't fit it in.Supra would be plenty to kill off supercars, though I bet you could replicate MRC's 800bhp 2.7TT Audi S4 for less than £25k, and that would be great fun

Dirk Schoysman would disagree. I'm sure I remember seeing an interview with him where he stated they removed the 4wd system from their race car (Skyline) because it was just dead weight. 4WD generally is going to be just that when trying to go as fast as possible. It's a safety feature or for off-road, not setting lap times.
We're (Well, I am anyway) talking about straight line, 1/4mile.Being unable to warm the tyres of a 4wd car, the extra weight and the power-sapping drive train must result in slower times than that of an equivalent RWD car, or does the benefit of being easier to hook up a perfect launch overcome those hindrances?

I don't know but I can't remember the last time I saw a 4WD drag car, can you? Add to that fact most supercars are RWD as well and I think that proves what I was saying about 4WD being a safety feature or for off-road.Being unable to warm the tyres of a 4wd car, the extra weight and the power-sapping drive train must result in slower times than that of an equivalent RWD car, or does the benefit of being easier to hook up a perfect launch overcome those hindrances?
