Nissan x trail Problems ?

Girl on our yard had one she used for towing.
What was she towing? I know of someone who bought one to tow a horsebox only to find out after purchase that the X-Trail wasn't rated highly enough to pull it! If your girl was exceeding the towing limit I'd imagine it would've contributed to it's early death?!

Most Xtrails have a recommended towing limit of 2000 kgs so a 900 kg horse box (unladen weight) with 2 x 500 kg horses should be fine on a B+E licenceIf your girl was exceeding the towing limit I'd imagine it would've contributed to it's early death?!
Xtrails are often used by B (no BE) licence holders to tow one horse in a down plated light horse trailer quite legally

Out of curiosity I checked in case I had misheard, X Trail with manual gearbox can tow 2200kg, but fitted with the autobox the bhp is restricted to 150bhp from 173bhp, and towing capacity reduced to 1350kg - a bit rubbish really!Xtrails are often used by B (no BE) licence holders to tow one horse in a down plated light horse trailer quite legally

Im looking to buy a Nissan X Trail shortly, around 2010 reg and 173 bhp tekna manual.
Is there any problems i should look out for ?
Ive been told about the DPF if you only do short journeys, the engine light comes on then it needs a 20 mins blast to recharge it.
Boredom maybe? Is there any problems i should look out for ?

That might be unfair. I looked at an X-Trail last year when looking for vehicles for my Mum. The only thing I can say about the X-Trail was I like the seat fabric material. The rest was average to tedious. A perfect white goods vehicle, but one that may send you to sleep while driving it.
Also the one I looked at was rusting on the rear arches/tail gate and had lots of flaky trim. Including a glove box that wouldn't stay shut, a broken exterior door handle and a dodgy electric window.

They are all going to be rather similar to an extent I agree, and none hugely exciting. We went with another Freelander (TD4). Where the boxy shape of the X-Trail made it feel like transit van to drive the Freelander is certainly not as bland to be in (IMO). I also like the fact you can roll down the rear window, which is a pleasant alternative to using air con in the summer.I also think a Rav4 would be worth looking at over the X-Trail.

An Ifor Williams 505, plated down to 2000kg. She only ever had one horse in it, so it would never have weighed more than 1700kg absolute max. He wasn't the biggest horse either. If your girl was exceeding the towing limit I'd imagine it would've contributed to it's early death?!
Why would the HB505 need down plating to 2000 - that does not make sense
I've got a 2008 173 Aventura so essentially the same thing pre-facelift.
Only had a couple of issues - loose exhaust heat sheild, erratic idle (service sorted that out) and a knackered front caliper that had to be replaced at circa 55k.
Other than that it does the job and I quite like it, it is boring but then anything in the same category and budget would be IMO.

Because she, along with a lot of the horsey and towing fraternity, are under the impression that you can only tow a trailer as long as the plated gross weight on the trailer is less than or equal to the braked towing capacity of the tow car. Which was 2000kg.Why would the HB505 need down plating to 2000 - that does not make sense
From you posting on it over the years, I understand this is not the case, however, this was a good couple of years ago now. And the trailer plate was sent back to IW to be re-issued, so if you're correct on the law, I'm not sure why they would even offer that service.
And I might have been a bit high on the weight. Although, 600kg horse, plus a tack pack full of stuff, couple of water containers strapped down, might be a bit more than 1.4Te.

IWT probably just had a downplate request and did not need to know why

The Tekna trim level the OP is looking at has an electric panoramic sunroof, a pleasant alternative to rolling down the rear window in the summer
