morning all.
i have a friend, who has the above.
i understand that unless the fuel tank is filled to the brim, the fuel gauge needle registers as empty.
I am told that this may not be an unusual problem, so it may have already been covered on here.

is there any advice that the forum can give, him.

very grateful...

Due to the shape of the tank it does drop very quickly from full to half full and then sits at a half tank for a long time before dropping further. That said mine doesn't go from full to empty straight away so you may have an underlying problem. I tend to use the fuel computer to judge the level as it's a "bit" more accurate.

In a nutshell, if the tank goes below hlf a tank, the on board computer calculates remaining fuel, not the fuel sender. The fuel tank is horseshoe shaped to go over the front diff. So when you refuel, you need to ensure you put enough fuel in so the fuel sender recognises a fill up. Worth filling to the brim, and any empty fuel worries should dissappear

Yeah absolutely normal. If you put in twenty pounds won't register. If you put in 40-50 it should register 3/4 full or whatever,
end of day best to just fill up when hitting reserve and then no probs

hi guys,
thanks for comments so far.
when he puts in £20, from nearly empty, the obc does not give a range, only shows'---'. when it is full to the brim, the obc gives a proper range (typically 230m approx), and the needle is ok when filled to the top.
the problem only arises when it is not fulled to the brim.

my friend is happy that it is a known issue, as he might be tempted to let it go.

Why would you buy and run a 911 and only put £20 of fuel in it at a time? I hate filling up and do it as least often as possible.Tell him to fill the bugger up ,run til empty and fill again.

My 996 C4 cab does the same - you just have to put more in at the fill up. Or if you have to put £25 in at stupid motorway prices to get you back to Sainsburys and super unleaded at a decent price, just use the trip to remember the range!
