Been driving a E class estate for 7 years with the rear facing extra seats in the boot, and need to change the car due to the kids getting bigger and the cars getting older!

I tow a 1850kg caravan, and occasional horsebox so need good towing potential, and room for a large family of 7!

The E class was my first automatic, and love it, also enjoy and appreciate a good spec.

Was thinking of a Discovery 3 or 4, but have read about some reliability issues, so not sure now, but still like the idea of one and they appear to get a good appraisal too.
Also considering BMW X5 and Audi Q7.

My normal commute is 38 miles each way, on flowing A and B roads, get about 38mpg from the E class, and about 34-35mpg overall.

Be interested to hear any thoughts.

I would add an XC90 to the list. Maybe even a Kia Sorento as something from left field (or the sister car Hyundai Sante Fe)...though if you are a badge snob you should just stick to the BMW and Audi.

If you've been happy with you E-Class Merc then consider a Mercedes GL as a logical next step.

Don't write off Discovery's, either.
