As previously described here I had been on the lookout for a new daily driver, preferably something 7 series shaped, and I had found what looked like a bargain, in the shape of a £4k '02 reg 735i.
So we pick up where that thread left off:
The agreement and meeting time had been struck, I arranged a lift with one of my friends from work, and so we set out, at 7 am, on a cold, yet clear Saturday morning.
A quick stop off for coffee and on to the M3.
Now the elise as it is is a lovelly thing, spacious however, it is not, nor quiet for that matter. But I sat firmly with my coffee wedged neatly underneath the window winder thing.
The journey continued without much fuss, and with a warming yet deafening engine note behind me, I settled in for the hour and a bit journey to Meppershall.
As we neared Junction 10 of the A1, it was becoming increasingly clearer that we were not going to be able to find a burger van, and instead we would have to make do with a Macdonalds from the services
Two Macdonalds breakfasts later we were warmed enough to attempt roof down driving. At this point my sole instinct was to keep warm so I forgot to take photos on this leg of the journey. Instead I sat huddled into my seat, praying for warmth.
Mercifully the road from services to Meppershall was quite short and we arrived to the glorious site of a gleaming green 7 series sitting out in the sun.
The doorbell was rung and a friendly chap in the shape of Alan, answered and in we went for discussions.
We decided Alan would take us out on a quick test drive and I would drive home, just to make sure I was happy with the car before I handed the money over.
So round the roads and bypasses of Meppershall we went, with alan talking, and occasionally joking about masturbation, and other such things. In all it was a pretty damn good test drive.
We headed back to Alan's and in we went for the money changing ceremonies
4 grand just doesn't look like an impressive ammount of cash, no matter how you lay it out.
My new keys, along with the owners manual, service book, and documentation.
a quick look at Alan's other toys, most notably this snowmobile
And we were off. alan had kindly entered my home details into the satnav and showed me the basics of the idrive during our quick test drive, and with the meter telling me we had 70 odd miles to go, and 200 miles in the tank, I set about the roads of meppershall in my very own 7 series.
Several things struck me while driving
one: There is very little noise form the V8
two: The idrive is very complicated but good fun
three: The voice recognition is questionable
four: The rear blind is fun, blind goes up, blind goes down...repeat.
The trip home was without incident, and by the time I got in I had adjusted to the idrive, and gone through seven hundred seat/steering wheel combinations. (you can get the side bolsters to hug you if you feel lonely
and here she is, in her very shiny green (anyone know what the official colour is called)
and I am one happy, comfortable owner:

I have a real soft-spot for E65s (and to a lesser extent, the E66) and as much as I'm tempted to replace my current car with one in a few months time, I can't help but feel that my 14-mile daily commute might not do it justice!

Thanks for all the feedback chaps, for my first attempt at barging I'm pretty damn pleased. There's a few niggly bits, but nothign that we can't forgive due to it's lovely waftiness and the incredibly comfortable seats.
It would appear the phones in these models are all locked to vodafone, so my arranging dual Orange sims beforehand wasn't necessary. I've got myself a work sim installed and can just forward the calls from my orange phone to this while I'm in the car (great android app for this).
It also doesn't change gears very quickly, so when you're stuck in traffic and stop, it takes a second before you can pull off again. I just need to adjust my driving style for this really.
Other than that it is superb, the seats are comfortable, the ride is exceptionally smooth. A full tank should give me between 450-500 miles, even if it takes over £100 to fill.
I've only just reset the mpg calculator so I'll update that stat a little later.

She's a beaute! Must have been one of the first in the showrooms given its 02 plate. No snob factor intended, but it cries out for a private plate (if you have a V8 car, I do like the idea of 'V8' plates. Yup, sad bast*rd!)
