Bit of a long shot, but I don't suppose anyone here has or knows of a flat or house to rent in the Aberdeen area? I've just started a new job and need somewhere to live!

What I'm looking for:
Unfurnished
minimum 2 bedrooms
ideally North/Northwest of Aberdeen as commuting to Bridge of Don but willing to be flexible
within 30 miles of BoD
no more than £600 pcm, but less is better smile

smile

And before you say it, yes some rocking horse st would be nice too! biggrin

Unless going private or more rural, £600 will sadly not get you much of a 2 bedroom at the moment. I'll see if we have anything suitable, but don't want to annoy any mods with advertising so I'll get back to you smile

Cheapest two bed I spotted http://www.s1rental.com/Flats-for-rent/20130115041... but it's under offer. Even at £700pcm there isn't a great selection

On average, a decent two bed will go for at least 750-800. The demand is there. For somewhere like Cove/Portlethen/Westhill etc for a similar property would would be only around £50 cheaper, due to the job nature of Aberdeen every property is at a premium.

That's what I was afraid of. Looks like a budget revision may be in order. frown

When are you looking at moving? We don't have anything suitable for you but I can help out smile It's a stressful city to rent in so you have my sympathy!

I started my new job today(!) so I'm looking to move pretty quickly and can afford to be a bit flexible on budget.

In an ideal world I'd want to be within 20 miles of BoD so I can cycle in occasionally when the days get a bit longer, but if that's not possible then I can live with it. I'm *really* flexible on location and type of property, even on number of bedrooms, as long as it's in a decent area. I'd like my commute to be no more than an hour by car.

To give you an idea, I've been searching an area from Inverbervie to Aboyne to Huntly to Fraserburgh. My biggest problem (apart from cost) is that I have no clue what any of these areas are like - it's 20 years since I last lived in Aberdeen.

OK, you guys are just trying to make me depressed!

Like I said, I'm really flexible on location etc. I'll be starting at 8am so I hope I'll miss the worst of the traffic, particularly if I can find somewhere N/NW. I'm just aware that getting a cheaper place is no good if I spend all the savings on fuel getting to the office!

ooh, that's a site I hadn't looked at before! Thanks!

I'm staying in a hotel (THE hotel?) in Cruden Bay and my postprandial stroll led me past the local newsagent where I stopped to peruse the ads in the window. I've now got a number to call tomorrow for a property here.

Thanks to that and the helpful posts here I'm a bit more hopeful that I can find somewhere within budget. Don't stop making suggestions though. You guys are doing a fantastic job!

Now, who wants to help me move? boxedin

Not sure what there is in Inverurie as I haven't looked at places for a while but certainly worth a look. There is a decent enough transport system, so a night in Aberdeen is no problem as there and trains and buses back out.
I was 20 - 30mins to get to work in BOD (starting at 8) usually the same going back the way as well at half 4.

http://www.kellas.biz/property-details.php?pid=878 this one doesn't seem to bad, also comes with a garage which is a bonus!

Kintore, Kemnay or Inverurie are all around 20-25 minutes commute to BoD on an average day, are nice areas to live in and have reasonable local facilities and transport links to the city centre. There are a few people who cycle in from Kintore every day (normally pass them on the way home).

Mrs Miggins!

Good luck with the search, I've ended up renting in Newtonhill and work in Dyce. It's not too bad in the morning as I'm out of the door at 0530 in the morning, however in the evening the traffic can be awful. In the summer I just ride in so it's about thirty to forty minutes each way but in the car it can take almost two hours.

However the south of Aberdeen is nice, Portlethen, Newtonhill and Stonehaven are all nice and cheaper than the city (though they are south).

Have you looked at Inverurie or Kintore?

smile

Bob! How the devil are you?

I've extended the search to approx 30 miles from BoD in all directions. Actually arranged a viewing on a property and drove out there tonight, but no one turned up to show me around! I hope that's not an indication of things to come! Got a viewing arranged for tomorrow which I hope will lead somewhere. smile
