I have been offered an XK150 for an ok price. Lots of rust, very little interior and no engine or gearbox. While the body is a mess, I feel it could be saved. Not sure about the chassis yet.
I know I don't have the budget for a full restoration with no little to work with. So I was thinking about doing something else. Take a Fisher Fury (or similar rear-wheel drive) and retrofit the shell, glass, doors and brightwork. Interior would be a a mix. Old style with modern materials.
Good idea or just nuts?

If you think the Jag is too far gone and not sacrilege in your eyes then go for it. You will probobly upset a few people but it's your wreck to do with as you see fit. My only siggestion is you stick a straight 6 or v8 in it not a 4-pot. Just make sure if it all works out to make a mould from the body and sell a few!!

And as I think an off the shelf chassis like the Fury may need altering, it might be worth speaking to somebody like MK who may be able to build you a bespoke chassis to your body dimensions. Or would a Jag based Cobra Chassis be better??

fisher fury in ten years will be worth very little in comparison to the potential price of the XK.

I think you will kick yourself.

Why not look at the GKD http://www.gkdsportscars.com/ or MK http://www.mkengineering.co.uk/ BMW Seven chassis or my suggeestion would be to look at the Marlin BMW chassis http://www.marlinsportscars.co.uk/ as a starting point as they at least have the ability to fit the right type of engine (2.8 six or possibly M3) and are based around quality components. Fury wheel base may be a bit of stretch (putting in an extra foot plus in there = lots of welds and modification = loss of strength potentially). Or look at the Autotune Rishton Aristocrat XK120/140 kit as a basis for a chassis http://www.autotuneuk.com/.

I would only even consider chopping the car up if could not be saved. There is so much missing that if it doesn't get rescued by me it would most likely rust away to nothing.

I would think a v6 might be the way to go. Might be a bit too much rumble from a v8. Great on a Cobra though.

I used to make molds from old Formula Fords ages ago. Sure my technique could do with updating!

I am not sure is the answer. Lotus 7 style cars are all going to be too small, however the handling is great.

I am looking to end up with something that is still a gentlemans racer, just modern. Weekend only and just the odd longer trip.
It must still be lightweight, rear wheel drive and simple. No driver aids, minimal heating/comfort (but some) while being the right side of comfortable. A car you could drive in tweeds rather than a race suit.

The Fury chassis must be showing its age by now. I like the idea of using more modern materials where possible and within (financial) reason.

You are quite right that a fully restored XK150 would be worth more that Any hybrid, however it would also need a much bigger budget to do well.
I am wanting to many a 'pretty' drivers car that will get used as is super fun.

Would love to be able to afford restore a good example of an old Jag, just the time and money!
