As the title says...does anyone know how the warranty on a new E92 would be affected by fitting an Akra Evo system?
Thanks in advance.

Warranty is void, BMW might cover you or they might not.

Speak to your local dealer. I had H&S boxes on my M5 and they said they'd still happily cover everything but the exhaust as its not affecting anything else. And anyhow, the exhaust is a consumable item so not really a warranty issue 99% of the time.

The Akra has it's own warranty. There was some initial fear that cracking could be a factor due to Titanium becoming more brittle at high temperatures, but apparently those fears have been unfounded...the Akra exhaust system has proven to be pretty bombproof.

I was more concerned with the BMW warranty....I'd assume that the extra pressures/temps involved would have some effect on the engine, however minor...and therefore invalidate the cars warranty.

Why should the temps differ? Unless you are having it mapped also?

You will need to check with the dealer.

The BMW extended warranty (mondial) is pretty clear that modifications WILL void the warranty, as will any track use.

Mondial were fine with coilovers and ssk. They were disclosed and we agreed those parts were not covered...no problem. On my z4m i disnt even bother disclosing any mods and they covered everything just fine. They aren't strict like Porsche (lose cover for painting brake calipers!)

Maybe it's just my lack of tech knowledge but I assumed that with the extra horse power and torque available by using the Akra, that this would cause an increase in engine temp too.

I wouldn't be bothered with BMW not covering the parts changed.....the exhaust will have it's own Akrapovic warranty anyway....just don't want the thought that it would invalidate everything else.

Give them a call, they're reasonable people in my experience (maybe lucky?!)

Unless the Akro system has hi-flow sports cats the gains wont even register on paper. If it does have sports cats the only temperature differences will be within the cat and manifold and the temps will be lower due to the faster rate of gas release. With that, its only with the addition of sports cats that you'd need to remap the car, and only with a map will you see any gains worth talking about. Not sure about the torque though, correct me if I'm wrong but free flow exhausts on n/a cars normally give less torque due to lower back-pressure. I wait to be corrected.......

Should sound nice though!

If it's a name recognised by BMW then there will not be an issue.

Well the GTS comes with one and from my experience BMW are pretty fair on the factory warranty.

I wouldn't be worried if its the factory warranty but obviously they won't cover the Akra!

In my experience BMW will not void the warranty because of aftermarket parts unless those parts have directly caused (against all reasonable doubt)a failure. My cars have been in for warranty work with plenty of non-standard parts and I've never had any problems. I know people with superchargers fitted that have had items replaced under warranty.

This is some serious historical thread resurrection!

I enquired the very same issue a couple of years back on my M5. Was told that it wasn’t a warranty issue that was the problem per se but that as I had bought the car on BMW finance, the contract of which stated somewhere that you won’t modify the car in any way with non BMW parts etc....remember you don’t own the car until the finance is paid off. I spoke to someone at BMW finance head office on the matter and they were very clear this wasn’t allowed.

If you’ve bought the car outright or with other non BMW finance then may be different.
