I know there have been a few threads on fun load luggers in the past, but seeing as values are dropping and I'm in the market...please do entertain this one.

Essentially the Mrs and I are reasonably sold on an S4 Avant Manual (B6 V8)...however I'm left wondering if there's anything else out there that would be just as good for the same folding?

Low yearly mileage of 6000 we think, needs a big enough boot for two dogs (Pointer X and a Collie X), ideally a manual (the Mrs prefers manuals, as do I), but that said, I wouldn't say no to to an auto.

Are the Subaru Legacy's fun to drive and quick? Back in 2005 we had a 52 reg BMW 330 Sport Touring with Cat back Milltek exhaust, Gruppe M carbon airbox and a remap - it had circa 270bhp and was lovely to drive and reasonable quick. Ideally looking for something the same- sounds good, goes well, comfy, leave the dogs at home and throw it around a bit without it feeling like a boat! smile

TIA chaps.

C.

Saw one on Autotrader for sale last night...unsure tho. I mean the sound could be rather nice, but on paper, at least, the W8 and 275bhp (iirc) doesn't translate to much more 'go'?

Good call tho smile

Mate, have you thought about getting a Volkswagon? There's a version of the Passat you might like.

Short answer is probably "no". Maybe a nice late E46 330i would run it close (if you're not averse to having another one).

Depends whether you prefer 4WD or RWD.

Surely a B6 S4 would eat it alive! OP says he wants a car that can be thrown about a bit.

It'd be a 349bhp W210 for the budget.

What about a Saab 9-5 Aero 2.8T? Standard about 280bhp I think, and mappable easily north of 300. You'll get a corker for you budget. Just depends if you want to own a car from a now defunct manufacturer?

Thought the 9-5s were just 2.3 4pots, and the 9-3 got the V6 2.8T?
