I had been thinking about a newish 740d, but browsing the classifieds I notice all sorts of exotica in my price range (£35k, can push a bit).
Early Aston DB9s are in budget, as would be a nice V10 RS6 or even an S/CL65!

What would your buy be? It'll prob only do 5-7k and I'm used to burning through plenty of fuel so the costs dont put me off

I'm keeping my E39 but want to stop using her as my daily driver. Thoughts?

Maserati Quattroporte maybe? Aston Martin V8 vantage?

Personally, I would do something silly and buy a Corvette/Viper hehe

I think if I wanted a long distance GT car, as you suggest, then I'd look for a 997 Carrera 2S. It bridges the gap between affordable exotica with potentially high bills and ordinary but reliable.

Cayman R or C63 AMG for me.

DB9 would be superb but I'd be a bit worried about maint. costs if you are already stretching a bit to buy. If you have a slush fund then I can't think of anything more special for the money.

You won't find a more involving drive anywhere near your budget.
