Hi

Has anyone fitted the ACT Chimaera inlet kit to their cars?

It's the kit with "smooth bore pipe from plenum to meter, black convaluted pipe to filter, 4 hose clips & K&N filter"

I was wondering if anyone had had it fitted and what gains were acheived?

I think the next round of tuning (money and girlfriend permitting) is the inlet kit, new trumpets and a rolling road session...any thoughts?

have a word with austech before you do it.

They have experience of fitting quite a few of these and [I think] yesterday didn't reccommend it to me, if i understood them correctly.

are you sure, I've heard of back to back test that have shown improvements,certainly on the griffs.

I don't know if I'll get many bhps from fitting the new pipes and K&N. IIRC, Mr Heath mentioned in the bible that the stock filter works ok on most applications, do I need correcting?

I think I'll get the most gains from trumpets and rolling road...then the question is do I go for the Tornado chip to make sure the correct fuelling is getting to the right places?

Does anyone know if they fit them up north (Yorkshire area)? Or is it a trip down to Lingfield...

If that means it's like a concertina then yes it does...

We are just finalising the kit, the Chimaera exhaust manifolds run very close to the induction pipe so we need to include a reflective shield/ sheath. Austec are correctly telling customers to wait until we sort this.

My Chim has already got one of these, with a nice TVR logo stamped in it.

Tim I fitted some to mine post the rolling road session when I saw you last, it's not a perfect fit and I'm not sure how much of a problem it's saving me from. I'll be at the Austec open day at the weekend, to see if you think it's sufficient or could be improved upon.

the only mod we intend to do is include a sheild to wrap around the pipe, we could do this for you on sunday, as Austec have a sheet of it, for production i intend to have sheaths made to fit over pipe.

Have had the Taraka from TVR Power upgrade and am pretty sure its one of the bits they change -- don't know what it would do on its own, but the whole thing is stonking!!

Very little will be gained just by fitting a smooth bore hose and K&N filter.
Bigger trumpets,yes, (more air in). But only worthwhile doing with a different ECU chip and full remap on a rolling road.Don't expect massive gains though.More work and money will be needed.
The standard chip fitted to your ECU cannot be altered.

The smooth bore pipe actually increases bhp & torque
you have to consider that the air travels at over 100 mph at full chat through the 3" induction pipe.
regarding K&N filters V Standard, if both are new no difference but after 6 months the K& N will produce more power unless you regularly clean the sponge filter, they get blocked very quickly

V8 Dev. supplied me with an ACT induction kit (enlarged plenum polished tuned trumpets etc). As it was an Aluminium job I didn't need to remortgage the house but I also had a fast road cam and a revamped mark adams chip. The result was a significantly faster and more driveable car--total cost including labour about £2000--if you use the old yardstick of 1bhp per £100 this should only give an extra 20 bhp BUT the MA RR tuning makes the big difference--feels like a much greater increase in torque and bhp
