Mercedes C250 Coupe / 250 SLK

Seen some good value lease deals on these on a 6 + 23 basis.
Most of my driving is city centre commuting with some motorways for client meetings and I cover around 15k a year.
Seriously considering both of the above but trying to get a test drive from Mercedes is nigh on impossible.
Can any owners tell me about your experiences?
How do the cars drive? Do they fell reasonably brisk? Decent overtaking punch? Do they fell well planted on the road? I am not expecting either to set the world on fire, but do like a bit of shove beneath my toe.
I much prefer the styling of the C Coupe and think the SLK looks a bit awkward. However, my current daily is an Alfa Spider and I do love having a drop top. My Spider is a diesel so unlike some, I have no problem with the concept of a drop-top powered by the dreaded black stuff, which means the SLK has to be a contender.
Most of the cars I am being offered are automatics. As far as I can see they don't have paddles shift gearchanges as standard. My only experience with full autos in the past is that they are slow and sluggish and completely kill the potential fo enthusiastic driving. What are your experiences of the Merc auto boxes?

I have a C250 CDI Coupe and it's a great car. Very comfortable for long journeys, lots of toys, quite practical and very good on fuel (can comfortably get 60mpg on a long trip).
It's not the most engaging car to drive, but the longer I have it the more I'm starting to enjoy driving it. The engine is a bit clattery but for overtaking etc it's very good and you gain speed very quickly without really noticing it.

My wife ended up buying a C250CDI coupe after test driving both. Thought that the SLK wasn't as well built as the C-Coupe and was no-where near as practical. Drove the SLK 250 petrol and the C250coupe diesel. Having come from a Boxster S we knew that neither would be as good to drive but she covers 20k miles per year (big drive to work including a roads, motorway and london traffic) and the running costs etc were way better for either - can't help thinking that the residulas on the SLK won;t be that good either as it's not considdered a class-leader.
